Sam Jones' NCCU Jersey Retired

I had to dig for this article once I heard it on TV. Many apologies, Sam and all Celtic fans, for North Carolina's media's lack of attention to this. There was an article in the News and Observer out of Raleigh, but when I googled it and clicked on the link, it said "404 page not found".

NCCU has gone undefeated in it's conference play and will probably be in the NCAA Tournament coming up provided they win they conference tournament.

So nice to see Sam honored in any way in any place.  That's Gladys to his right in the video.

It's especially nice to see him looking good (despite a recent weight gain) and standing without his cane.  He's had heart difficulties lately that have made a knee replacement impossible, and I wouldn't have bet he could have made the ceremony.

But, then, I wouldn't have bet he could have hit the shot that made it ultimately possible for the Celtics to break the Lakers' balloons.

P.S. Sam, I'm also ashamed and embarrassed to say I did not know Sam Jones went to school right here in my backyard until I saw all this this week. Now that's pathetic not to know that bit of history!

Not as pathetic as you might think.  Red didn't know Sam was at school there because Red didn't even know of his existence until his former player, Bones McKinney, told him.

How about this for an idea?  I have Sam Jones' email address.  I'll start a congratulatory thread on which anyone can write his/her congratulations to Sam (be sure to sign your board name).  I'll package them together and send one big congratulatory message to Sam.  I bet he would really appreciate that.

Rosalie, the thread for sending messages to Sam is entitled "Optinoal Thread for Congratulationg Sam Jones on the Retirement of his College Jersey."  I hope a lot of people will want to participate, as I wouldn't insult Sam by sending him an anemic post.  Thanks for doing your part.
