Though the Celtics have roughly $66 million in guaranteed salary committed to 14 players for next season, clearing about $6-8 million of cap space is still possible, according to my calculations. That would require waiving Pressey and Babb and convincing Crowder to wait before signing his deal. Before Crowder's new five-year, $35-million contract becomes official, he has a cap hold of $1.1 million -- about $5 million less than the expected starting range of his new deal.

If the Celtics find a need for more spending cash, they could also get creative with Gerald Wallace's contract by dumping it (which would probably require spending at least a future first-round pick) or stretching it (which would minimize his cap hit this year, but make his contract more of a long-term burden). Presumably, those would only become options if Boston wants to clear space for a worthy target.
