#1 Bucks
#2 Cowens; MVP of '74 finals was Hondo
#3 Glen McDonald
#4 JoJo White
#5 Paul Westphal. He took a technical foul by asking for a TO when Phx had none and was down by one with only a second left and his team 94 feet from their own basket. JoJo made the FT to give the C's a two point lead. PHX then got the ball at halfcourt down by two and tied the game on Garfield Heard's moonball jumper.
#6 Hondo; Garfield Heard
#7 Charlie Scott; Campy Russell?? Austin Carr??
#8 Bird???
#9 DeBusshere

Answers to The overlooked 1970's Celtics quiz

Backdoor layup-B) The Celtics met rival New York in the Eastern Conference finals three years in a row from 1972-74. The Knicks won in 1972 4-1 and again in 1973 in a 4-3 upset. Boston earned a measure of revenge by taking out the Knicks 4-1 in 1974 en route to the title, sending New York Hall of Famers Willis Reed, Dave DeBusschere and Jerry Lucas into retirement.
In the star-studded 1970-71 rookie class, Cowens shared the top newcomer award along with Portland sharpshooter Geoff Petrie. The unheralded duo out-pointed bigger-name college superstars such as Pete Maravich, Bob Lanier, Rudy Tomjanovich and Calvin Murphy for the honor.

Dunk-A) The Celtics defeated Milwaukee in seven games to win the epic 1974 NBA Finals. Five of the seven games were won by the road team, including the seventh game in Milwaukee by the Celtics, 102-87.

Short jump hook-B) Third-year center Dave Cowens was named MVP of the 1973 All-Star Game in Chicago, and for the 1972-73 regular season after leading Boston to the best record in franchise history. A year later, teammate John Havlicek was named MVP of the 1974 Finals.

Free throw-B) With several players foule dout and tired, seldom-used reserve gurd Glenn McDonald came off the bench to can three huge baskets in the third overtime of game 6 in the 1976 Finals to help Boston to a 128-126 victory.

Free throw-C) Recently-inducted Hall of Famer JoJo White was named MVP of the 1976 Finals in a close vote over Cowens.

Jump shot-C) Paul Westphal is the only man to be involved in both NBA Finals triple overtime games as a player or coach. He was a key player for the Suns in their 1976 loss at Boston, a year after being traded from the Celtics. Seventeen years later in 1993, he was a rookie head coach for Phoenix when they won game three of the Finals at Chicago. But each time, Westphal's club lost in six games.
With the Suns down one with a second left in game 6 of the 1976 Finals, Westphal persuaded coach John MacLeod to call an extra timeout to get a technical on purpose. JoJo White hit the foul shot, but the Suns got the ball at halfcourt instead of having to go the length of the floor, which set up the tying basket that forced a third OT.
Westphal, who starred at Southern Cal, was inspired to think of the tactic after having seen USC football coach John MacKay get intentional penalties to stop the clock late in games.

Jump shot-B) John Havlicek's leaning left wing bank shot just before the second OT buzzer appeared to give Boston a 111-110 triumph in the epic game six triple OT battle in 1976. The team ean into the locker room as the clock had run out, but after e wild on-court melee where referee Richie Powers was punched by a fan, it was ruled that one second remaine don the clock.
After an intentional technical foul on Phoenix was converted, weak-shooting Sun forward Garfield Heard canned an improbable rainbow desperation jumper over Don Nelson at the buzzer to force a third OT.

Hook shot-A) Dave Cowens personally broke open the title-clinching game 6 win in the 1976 Finals with nine points down the stretch, including a steal and driving three-point play despite playing with five fouls.
He stole the ball from Rookie of the Year Alvan Adams, drove coast to coast and converted a three-point backhande dlayin to clinch the 13th Boston banner.
Cavalier center Jim Chones missed their 1976 Eastern Conference final battle with Boston due to a foot injury incurred in practice just before the series began. Boston great John Havlicek also missed much of the series with a foot injury.

Jump shot-A) JoJo White picked up a loose ball rebound and canned a left baseline jumper at the buzzer to nip the 76ers 113-111 in game 1 and stun their home Spectrum crowd in the 1977 eastern semifinals. The 76ers rallied to dethrone the champs and win the series 4-3 but fell in the Finals to Portland, 4-2.
Boston swept new NBA member San Antonio in the first season of the NBA/ABA merger 2-0 in their 1977 1st round mini-series.

3-pointer-B) Dave Cowens turned the extremely rare trick to become the first player ever to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots in the same season.
In 1977-78, Cowens tallied 1,435 points (18.6 ppg), grabbed 1,078 rebounds (14.0), passed out 351 assists (4.6), made 102 steals (1.3) and blocked 67 shots (0.9). But in Havlicek's disappointing final season, Boston finished just 32-50 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 1971.
