Most NBA teams hosted media day Monday, providing a steady stream of news and quotes. Some of it was important, if true. Markieff Morris claimed he no longer wants to leave the Phoenix Suns, George Karl called DeMarcus Cousins a changed man, and Nick Young now allegedly wants to be known as Nicholas.

Other tidbits weren't so vital, but entertaining nonetheless. Kevin Garnett has no love for Sam Mitchell's Toronto Raptors stories, Kobe Bryant still likes to shoot, and Gregg Popovich remains more than capable of screwing with reporters.

Pierce and James have been rivals for years, of course. While it's a lopsided matchup now, the Boston Celtics dealt James some of his most vicious losses, and Pierce had a lot to do with that. He and his teammates tested the four-time MVP physically and mentally, waging "psychological warfare" against James, as Keyon Dooling has described it.

Interestingly, Brandon Bass actually wore LeBron James sneakers last season, calling them his favorite footwear. Still, Pierce's former teammate refused to use those shoes against James, explaining he would choose "anything else" for matchups with Cleveland.

As for Pierce, well, he helped Washington in the locker room and on the court last season. Marcin Gortat raved about the example Pierce set every day. Now the 37-year-old star is with the Clippers -- and surely still peddling James hate, just like always.
