WALTHAM -- Boston Celtics forward Perry Jones missed his second straight practice Friday due to right knee soreness, according to a team spokesperson.

Jones had a wrap on the knee when the Celtics opened practice. He is expected to travel with the team to Italy and Spain for a pair of preseason games, but the team offered no indication about whether he will suit up.

The timing of the injury is particularly cruel as Jones could potentially be sitting on the roster bubble. The Celtics have 16 players on guaranteed contracts, one more than the regular-season limit.

The injury might not be a major issue, but Jones dropped in the 2012 Draft due to medical concerns about his knees. One NBA scout told Seth Davis that his team felt Jones' knees would only hold up for 3-4 years. This is Jones' fourth season.

The 6-foot-11 athlete averaged 4.3 points and 1.8 rebounds last season for the Oklahoma City Thunder before getting traded for salary purposes this summer. He has intriguing physical tools but has yet to establish himself as a consistent impact player.

If Perry is not able to stay healthy enough to play and play well during the upcoming pre-season his odds of making the final cut are greatly diminished.

I still feel there will be a 2 for 1 trade as opposed to a cut.
