Report: Former Celtic Faverani leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv
November 2, 2015, 12:15 pm
BOSTON – The downward spiral of former Boston Celtic Vitor Faverani continues with word spreading that the big man is parting ways with European power Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The 6-foot-11 big man returned to action after spending nearly a year recovering from a knee injury sustained when he played for the Celtics’ Development League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, in 2014.
In July, he reportedly signed a two-year deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv with the second year being a team option.
With Maccabi Tel Aviv, he has played in just one game in which he scored three points in about nine minutes of action.
With the Celtics, he appeared in 37 games with eight starts that included being the team’s opening night starter in 2013. He averaged 4.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.7 blocked shots in 13.2 minutes per game.
In his first NBA game, he scored a career-high 13 points in a loss at Toronto. He followed that up two nights later against Milwaukee. He tallied his first and only double-double, scoring 12 points to go with career-highs in rebounding (18) and blocked shots (6).
From there, his impact steadily decreased and ultimately led to the Celtics assigning him to the D-League.

MY NOTE: Maccabi - Tel Aviv are the Boston Celtics of the Euro league, no franchise has won more championships, not even close. If he wanted to be with a class organization that knows how to build championship players and teams, this was the one to get on. Vitor, apparently, still hasn't figured out it takes more than being big to play pro ball (if it was then Robert Upshaw and Greg Stiemsma would be playing). I had high hopes for him, but when I saw all those selfies he was taking of him and his "posse" in Malaga, Spain, where he was rehabbing, I just sensed he was taking his success way, way too much for granted. He has the body, he has some skills, his problems are attitude-based in my opinion.

Vitor's (now former) teammate might be the next Celtics star. 18 year old 7'1" Dragan Bender.
He seems like a more athletic Porzingis without as long arms
He might even still be 17 but he's eligible and looking like a top 5 pick, maybe even rising to #1

Simmons is an LSU freshman and top contender for the #1 pick. He's got it all, so much so that he's getting a lot of LeBron comparisons.
I just don't want to get my hopes up too high, or close my mind to the concept of one of these other 18-19 year olds passing him in the next year.
I love that Simmons is so strong too. Already 240 at what, 18 years old?
Only downsides basketball-wise are his wingspan isn't great and his outside shot is a work in progress.
Attitude-wise it's hard to tell.

These are the two other contenders for the #1 pick
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Skal-Labissiere-71664/
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Brandon-Ingram-7260/
and one last one, Danny and Brad's kind of player but not a favorite to be #1

112288,
I hear ya, I'd rather have a defensive presence in the middle myself, but think about who we have at 3:
Evan Turner - not a shooter, facilitator perhaps, but not a shooter
Jae Crowder - not a shooter, swiss army knife maybe, but not a shooter
Jonas Jerebko - when he plays 3, he's not a shooter
James Young - a shooter, but...
In summary we have no shooters, no go to guy, at 3 now.

Bob,
Got to play Young ...got to play Hunter and see what we got.
I wonder what young 3 is available on a trade with Bradly and a daft pick?
At some point Philly just cannot keep losing and retaining their young. They need to let go of something and perhaps a 3 way trade can be arranged.

112288,
Sam Hinkie's in charge there. Nothing they do has to make sense.
Rumor du jour, Dario Saric is leaving Europe a year early and will be in Philly next summer. If so, here's their starting back court:
Okafur, Noel, Embiid (assuming) and Saric.
Jeez...

Re: Vitor Faverani Leaving Maccabi - Tel Aviv
I don't think Saric is going to come over next year. In doing so, he'd have to sign a 4 year rookie scale contract. Waiting one more year, even if he really really doesn't want to, will earn him tens of millions of dollars just over the next 3-4 years. He'll earn more in his rookie year by delaying another year than he would in his entire 4 year rookie scale contract by coming over next year.

Dragan doesn't turn 18 for a couple weeks!
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Dragan-Bender-62877/
Already has a 9'3" standing reach. Average NBA center standing reach is 9'1.5". Not bad for a 7'1" combo forward.

Rambone seeing a lot more very athletic players coming out of Australia and Europe.
The way I see it, if there is no center available go for a stud 4 or 3.

This guy is one to keep an eye on, especially since we might have multiple lotto picks.
Draftexpress has him ranked 13th, while the other draft sites have him ranked late first.
Chinese are hoping he's the next Yao, though he's super skinny and more agile than Yao.
Same standing reach as Rudy Gobert, or 1/2" shorter, at 9'6.5". Average NBA center standing reach is 9'1.5".
Just 209 lbs though, that's a red flag though he's still only 19 so maybe it's all good, especially if he can play PF.

Zhou Qi's got me fired up. 1 billion new Celtics fans in an instant if we ended up with that dude.
He might be Porzingis without the 3 point shot, and that's still pretty great.
Only problem is Chinese government might run him into the ground like they did with Yao, making him play for Team China every single summer even if he's injured and in desperate need of rest/recovery.
