Olynyk in Mexico??????????????????
Was it something in the water? Warmer temperature? Playing off US soil?
Last night was the Kelly Olynyk that the team needs almost every night, and it was not just the 21 points.
What is the key to getting him to play like this much more often?

As I wrote in the Game On thread - burritos. We've just gotta keep feeding Kelly burritos. Who was that guy last night? All facets of his game were inspired.

It's the man bun!
The Bill Walton looks does not work well. When he goes with the man bun he turns into a beast.

Not to throw cold water on KO's game, but I can't help thinking that the fact that Sacramento didn't play a lick of defense might have contributed to his success.

112288,
I think that it must be more than just playing against a bad team, because the Cs have played a few games against other poor teams and Olynyk had not played as well.
I really hope that his game against the Kings will propel him forward to where he becomes an important part of what the team is trying to accomplish.

112288,
Kelly is just starting his 3rd season. He has played a grand total of 3138 minutes.
By comparison:
Alex Len, the #5 pick in the same draft as Kelly, has played 2200 minutes. So, if "he isn't earning the minutes because he sucks" is the standard, he is a MUCH bigger bust than Kelly. #5 instead of #13 and 2/3 of the minutes. And Len doesn't have the logjam in the front court that Kelly has to deal with.
We all kjnow about Thomas Robinson and Anthony Bennett. MUCH higher draft picks and MUCH bigger busts.
Meyers Leonard is another big who was picked higher than Kelly's #13 and is further behind in his development than Kelly.
And these are just the bigs. Bradley Beal's first 2 years weren't that impressive. It is only now he is coming into his own. Otto Porter, to this day, isn't that impressive. Joe Johnson played 1000 minutes in 1/2 year with the Celtics. He didn't explode until his 4th year. Think we might have made something out of him, especially on defense, if he had been kept him around and hadn't been so quick to judge? Remember Bradley in his first year? Couldn't hit a shot if his life depended upon it and many people on this board were calling for him to be traded. His second year wasn't much better. Yeah, he had his defense but he was a signficant liability on offense. Now? He's the best player on the team but he's in his 6th season.
I don't know what your expectations of a #13 pick is but I feel like you're being a bit quick on the trigger. Other than Cousins' temperment, most people consider him to be a force at center in the NBA. He was not that in years 1-3. It takes time for bigs to grow physically and mentally, just as it does with PGs (mostly mentally). This is the downside of having a young team and building through the draft. Most of the team are puppies.
Kelly is still only 24 years old. 2 years and 19 games worth of experience. If we roll our eyes and wonder why a veteran like him isn't producing more maybe it's because the whole team is so damn young a 24 year old with just over 2 years experience is considered "a veteran" and that's a team problem, not his. Both Brad and Danny said last year that we were too young. So, now we have Amir and Lee, to "season" us a bit more. Another reason why Kelly doesn't look as good, he's being compared to the veterans that were brought in, specifically, to offset our youth.
I'm thinking that Danny may do something as we approach the deadline for when contracts have to be guaranteed. That's January 10th. If he doesn't, then this will pretty much be the team we'll have until February 18th and we approach the trade deadline (and the value of the Brooklyn Nets' pick starts to become clear as they rise or fall). that's 2 1/2 months for Kelly to build on his game. I don't see any reason for any trading partner of Danny's to feel hurried into a deal. The Nets' pick isn't solid yet, there is still time for them to straighten out whatever issues they have to deal with. It's only if there is a major injury on their team and they want to fill a hole fast that they would pull a quick trigger and, even then, would they trade an elite player to offset an injury to another player? I doubt it. Danny might do little tweaks but at this point our 11-8 record is good enough that he can afford to be patient and go big game hunting and worry about "tweaks" to the roster next off-season. Last year, tweaks were about all his could do because we didn't have anybody good enough for him to make some noise with.

BOB,
HE SUCKS!
He was a plotter and never a real center who has some skills as a shooter because he played guard for a long period of time until he had an abnormal growth spurt.
Now we have a first year man called - Kristaps Porzingis - how many NBA minutes has he played...........you get where I am coming from. KO has reached his top level as far as I am concerned. What you see is what you get!

112288,
I am familiar with Porzingis. If you remember, I carried his flag since before the 2014 draft when it was thought he MIGHT make himself eligible and was drooling like a newborn last year leading up to the 2015 draft just on the outside chance Danny could pull off a miracle.. If Porzingis went to school at Duke like Okafur or Kentucky like Towns he would have been the #1 pick just from all the scouts falling all over each other. As it is he "dropped" to 4th. You aren't really going to compare a #1 pick to a late lottery pick, are you? If you are rhen you shouldn't be happy with anybody on our roster because there is a #1 pick out there that is better than everyone we have at every position.
We're 11-8 after a tough monthly schedule. We don't dominate at any position but lead the league in victory margin and have an elite defense without having shotblockers. What does that say to you? It says to me the results being delivered is greater than the contributions of the individual parts and one of those parts creating those results is Kelly Olynyk. And if one were to say "but we'd be even better without him" that undermines the "it's all about the talent" argument further because then we'd be really, really good and still not dominate at any position.

We are taking about getting top talent for each position either through free agency, trade or draft to build to a top team. KO brings nothing and this team is at best middle of the road.

Re: Olynyk in Mexico??????????????????
Well up to now we certainly are overachieving, according to my eyes and its backed up by stats, we have an elite perimeter defense, with Smart and AB miraculously covering up for IT, and Crowder and Turner doing very well defensively too AND it is a new perimeter age we are in. We have no go to scorer, we share and move the ball and run, AB is growing into our best scorer and may be our best defender. Stevens has been masterful getting this middle of the road team to overachieve even to this level.
