Though not involved in the Boston Celtics' immediate plans, Jordan Mickey continues to progress with the Maine Red Claws. The D-League's Player of the Month for December notched another double-double Thursday (16 points, 10 rebounds) while swatting away four shots.
One of the blocks -- well, just watch:

Mickey intended to block the shot with his left hand, but altered his plans when Xavier Munford opted for a reverse layup instead. With incredible mid-air body control (and a 7' 3.25" wingspan), Mickey switched over to his right hand, denied the offering, and even gathered the ball to keep possession for his team.
You can see why Celtics head coach Brad Stevens is "really curious" to see what the big man could do at the NBA level. Mickey currently leads the D-League in blocks per game, and is in the top 20 for averages in both rebounds (fourth) and points (18th). He has even added a bit of 3-point shooting to his game.
Terry Rozier also put up big stats (23 points, nine rebounds, five assists) Thursday in Maine's 110-97 win. Highlights from the two Celtics rookies can be found below:

Although I know why Mickey was sent to play in Maine, is it too much to think that perhaps he could provide more consistency at the forward position than the Cs are currently getting from the guys who are getting the varsity minutes?
Perhaps he will play some by the end of the year.

The question is interesting but the answer can only be verified if JM gets a chance to play.
I think he is a terrific defensive player which makes him better than several bigs on the team.
