New coach, new GM and the owner calling for a "new direction".
And the trade deadline about 5 weeks away.
I can't see any team going through something like this mid-season and getting better. Coaching change? That will undermine team chemistry and style of play. New GM? That will create change, but what players do you bring in that will fit the coach's system when there is no coaching system because the coach has been fired too?
From our perspective, it's the gift that keeps on giving. I'd say Danny should give them a call but, aside from the fact that nobody knows who to call, they have little we want. Thaddeus Young. Lopez has stayed healthy, surprisingly, and is still only 27. Hmm. Other than those two they have nothing. Not even draft picks, heeheehee. If they trade their big names, they get worse and our smiles get bigger. Would someone take 34 year old Joe Johnson's $18M salary dump when they could have 32 year old David Lee's $15.5M salary dump? If you are over the cap and paying luxury tax $ that $2.5M additional salary is a lot of money in taxes too. Lee can still play, Johnson oft resembles a cadaver. There is talk of the Nets buying out Joe Johnson after the trade deadline passes. Not sure I understand why, but that will probably make them worse as the kiddies get to play and learn but not as well.
It's a sunny day on Celtic Planet.

I don't wish injuries on anyone but with Jarret Jack out for the season, the Nets now own the worst collection of guards in the NBA. And the team's play in the last week or so has shown them playing some of their worst basketball of the season. Currently pretty locked into projecting they will finish no better than with the third worst record in the league, if the Lakers can pick their game up a bit (at present LA sits 2 1/2 games behind BKN), we could wind up going into the lottery with the 2nd pick.
Go LA.
Go LA.

The value of the pick looks pretty good.

The Nets situation looks to have worsened which is good for the Cs both this year and next.
If they start playing worse the Lakers will catch them fairly soon. Philly, on the other hand, will not catch them.
With the value of the Nets picks in the next two years going up, it may be time to trade some of the Cs other picks in the next draft or two. None of these picks will be the first or second pick, but they may have enough value to find a 'star' before this year's trade deadline if packaged with a forward or two off the current roster and maybe a couple of the many second rounders that the Cs have.

Lakers have 30 points at the half at home on 28% shooting (once again Kobe is out) at trail the weak Jazz by 13 tonight. Not looking good for even a home win against another lottery team for LA.

Why don't I feel as optimistic as everyone?!
I can't recall but when was the last time a coaching change like this was made in a similar situation and the team did not improve significantly?

I agree with db - when the dysfunction is that high, things usually improve with a coaching shake up.

92-66 SA over Brooklyn with 6 minutes to go.
Another on in the L column for the Nots.

Things are working out well I would say.
I think the Pelican will finish better than them and there is also a chance that the Lakers play better as well.
The nets have zero reason to tank anytime soon and they have no ability to win anytime soon. We need to have Danny call them up and
apologize for fleecing them (admit what you did)
offer them Lee's expiring contract for Thadeus Young and one of our first rounders not theirs.
That would open up even more cap space for them next year and they could have a draft pick as a consolation prize.

Re: Nets disastrous trade with Celtics finally brought the axe
dbrown, you're right that making a coaching change can often lead to a spark in the team's play, but Jarrett Jack going down for the season was a huge blow. Their starting backcourt last night was Donald Sloan and Wayne Ellington. Throw Joe Johnson in there, and they are outgunned from the get-go in three out of five starting positions. Their best bench player, rookie Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, has a non-displaced fracture in his ankle and is out for 2-3 months.
Thaddeus Young is a very good player, but he can't do everything himself. With no one to get him the ball properly or take the defensive pressure off of him, his stats will probably take a dive, at least from an efficiency standpoint, if not overall. Brook Lopez will do what he does. They have a few other guys who contribute in spots off the bench. There's just not much left on that roster.
I think it's more likely that Prokhorov has a fire sale on whoever he can get rid of. I just don't know why anyone would take Joe Johnson's contract. Brook Lopez and his 20 points and eight rebounds aren't as attractive in this era of small ball.
The Magic 8 ball says Brooklyn's outlook is not good. They're in a world of hurt.

Hysterical (delusional) quote from Mikhail Prokhorov today about his Nots:
"I hope we will be championship contender next year."
Uh, okay....

Re: Nets disastrous trade with Celtics finally brought the axe
like Clint Eastwood used to say "Every man has to know their limitations"
and the NBA is fixed at a certain level, its too bad Brook Lopez was injured in the first year of the arrival of Pierce and KG, but its been proven that there was/is corruption in the refs. In the 4th quarters of that Cavs-Nets playoff series, guess who got every call? That series was alot closer than one would believe, fockin refs had to make sure the golden boys team got ALL the calls.
