Lebron & the Mid 70's CAVS
I think, in retrospect, had Lebron been born earlier and played on the CAVS teams of the mid 70's, that would have been the best assembly of talent around him that he could hope for. It is better than he has now, and slightly better than he would have if he were part of the early 90's CAV teams. Those Cavs teams of the mid 70's featured Bill Fitch's coaching, Jim Chones and Nate Thurmond at Center. He would have the guard play of Bingo Smith & Jim Cleamons, and get scoring help from Campy Russell, and Austin Carr! That team would surely be a team with 70 win potential barring injuries!

The C's of the mid/early 70's woulda CRUSHED them!
Cowens and Silas would have ate BRON up!!
Nate was a little long in the tooth then and Chones often was injured.
But if all were healthy and throw Bron in as he is now, they would be very good but not better than the C's of then.

MD,
How about Bron and these guys:
Mark Price, Larry Nance, Brad Daugherty
Look at #6 on the list. Late 80's Cavs team was pretty good.
(don't look at #3)

Cavs alltime starting five (1999 version)

I will have to correct myself. Chones was not injured much at all, In looking at his stats for the Cavs under games played he hardly ever missed a game and palyed many the entire 82 game season multiple times.

Re: Lebron & the Mid 70's CAVS
I think James paired with the late 80's-early 90's CAVS would have been formidable, more so in the half court set. The mid 70's CAVS with James would have been more explosive in my opinion. As far as Thurmond being long in the tooth, he was no longer in the tooth than 'Sheed is now, I believe!-Joe Tate (Tait) used to hear him in the 70's on WWWE from Clevelnad, Johnny Most from WBZ 1030 for the C's, and a young Marv Albert doing Knick games with John Andreas on first WNBc 66 AM, what now is THE FAN, and later 1130 WNEW AM from New York-Those were the days (Archie & Edith) (Bunker)-MD!
