After GSW beat SA last night, Celtics 40-1 all-time best home record in '86 can now not be broken. Can only be tied now. That's why I was rooting for GS last night. That's a record I never thought would be seriously challenged. Didn't think anyone could ever go 41-0 at home for a season. Amazingly, two teams almost did it this year. But neither did. And I'm happy.
Anyone else? Or did no one else care?

I'm with you Steve! 85-86 is my favorite team and I'm still shocked they lost one at home that year but am glad they still have a piece of the record.

They still might have it all to themselves if Spurs lose their final home game to Oklahoma City on Tuesday. No telling who is going to play for either of those teams as they're both already locked in to their playoff positions.

Just goes to show just how locked in that 85-86 team was.

In my opinion that 85-86 club along with the 07-08 team and a couple of other Bird teams vie for honors of best Celtic team of all time.

Well best is all in the eyes of the beholder......
I loved watching the early mid 70's bunch and the take no prisoners attitude of Dave Cowens. Best probably not but to me they played the hardest of any Celtic team. Of course Havlicek was on those teams and he was my favorite too.

That 1976 championship series against the Suns was one of my favorites, especially the triple OT game 5 with the final 6 seconds of the 2nd OT which took 8:38.

What a finish to that OT. Then we won it in the third OT on McDonald's shot.

those were the days when very few games were televised and all I had to listen too was Johnny Most on WBZ radio 103, thru the static of AM radio. Today we are all so spoiled that every game is televised and nothing is really left to the imagination.

beat,
We used to turn the sound off the TV and listen to Johnny. It was amazing. It was like you were watching a completely different game than he was.

I don't know what was scratchier, my am radio picking up WBZ from Boston's Natick transmitter 35 miles away or Johnny's voice. Who could ever forget that voice? That was a 3 pack of unfiltered Camel's a day voice.

One of my lifetime highlites was being able to go to watch the C's in Buffalo on the college radio stations press passes in the 74-76 era.
Going into the press room and not only meeting with but sitting down and talking to Johnny was perhaps better than talking to any player ever.
Not sure just how old he was then but he looked to be about 125 yrs old. But what a nice man. He'd take a bite of his sandwich and a draw on his short little cigarette then tell me another story. He referred to the cigs as minutes cause that's how long it took him to smoke one.

Beat, Johnny was 54 in 1976 and died in 1993 at 69 and a half. What an unforgettable presence.

Your right beat. Best team does not have to be synonymous with most enjoyable team.

I used to do radio engineering for visiting team radio back then. I had a press pass, that enabled me to eat in the Garden's cafeteria. The food was terrible, but I got to listen to a lot of people talk. I would always sit at a table by myself and absorb as much as I could.
Tommy Heinsohn and Johnny would sit together often. I remember one night, Tommy was giving Johnny advice on health insurance, while Johnny ate 2 hot dogs with sauerkraut and washed it down with a cup of coffee, and as many cigarettes he could, before the game started. I suspect that diet helped generate some of his caustic words for the opposing team.
We left and headed to the radio booth "high above court side" Johnny was ahead of me, climbing the really steep steps up there, and started to fall backwards, but stabilized himself while waving his arms backwards. I had my hands out to catch him, but he made it.
I have great memories of the 86 team, and a lot of the people involved.
