Boston.com shutting down the message boards?
Just saw a thread about it at the Celtics board there. Some are wondering where to go to talk Celtic basketball .
For some reason it won't let me log in to make a post to have a link to this board. Maybe someone else can, with the warning that the childish stuff is not permitted here of course.

kdp,
We still have BobH for anyone wants to step out of line! His skillful and surgical rants against some of the BDC morons are/were legendary.
Ol' BDC must have finally come to it's logical, foregone conclusion. It took several years, but its end was in the cards. I can't criticize it too much as it was there that the idea for Sam's Celtic Forum was hatched. We would not be here if it was not for BDC.
Thank you so much, Sam and BDC for making this site a reality!!

I agree, but I wasn't able to post a link on that thread to this site, as I can't seem to log on there anymore.
I thought maybe someone else could so those left there could check this site out if they wanted.

This site has been a model for what it is like to converse with people without being nasty. Sam made everyone on BDC aware of this site, as did others here, I am sure, I have not been able to sign in there for quite a while. But, it never bothered me, in fact, I had forgotten they even existed. So to me it is no great loss. It will be interesting to see how many of those over there find their way to this forum.

TO ALL
This is an event that may bring us some very well respected and knowledgeable new membership.
Administrators and moderators here are going to be working on how to best handle what could be a positive for this board. We're attempting to make various contacts, but there is a way Sam's membership can help.
Posting at BDC is limited and difficult at this point. They're shutting down in May following unsuccessful attempts at systems upgrades. You cannot post a link to our site, but if you are able to reply to a message in their forum or have contact with anyone still there, you can get the word out to find us with Google or other search engines.
We should welcome anyone who does come our way, and be reassured that we will extend and expect the same civility that has always been our trademark.
Regards

Welcome to the board, Ram!
A quick primer:
We live and thrive on conviviality. You can insult players and GMs but you cannot insult board members. You can disagree with them on points of basketball, but you cannot call them names or disparage them personally. In fact, a board that has no differing opinions would be one boring board, but you cannot make it personal.
We have a group of moderators here, but this is a pretty democratic (small "d") board. The role of the mods is to maintain the board from a technical perspective and keep any out-of-control explosions of testosterone on a leash. None of us are paid to do this. Anybody can create threads, and you are encouraged to do so. You can join on the Game On threads (go to the home page to find them) and of course offer your thoughts on any existing thread.
One of the positive products of this conviviality is that many of us have become friends off the board as well. It's like family here. In fact, you'll see one of our members, beat, posting updates about his son whom many of us have met in person when we all met up to go to a Celtic game. Over the years we have seen him go from a big kid to a mature-for-his-age young man. Other people talk about their family and some of our board members are fathers and their sons.
We pride ourselves on generating more light than heat. That, I believe, separates us from BDC and is why many of us fled from there. I look forward to reading your opinions.
Welcome!
bob
P.S. "skillful and surgical rants" sounds oxymoronic to me. If it was a rant, then how skillful and surgical could I have been?

Welcome Ram!
I hope you will enjoy sharing your thoughts and ideas here.
If you get the chance, you might like to check in on our Game On! thread. The Celtics are doing their best to make sure we keep having those!
I think you'll find this a welcoming and personal group.

Welcome, Ram.
Many of us here also came from the BDC forums. That was my first experience discussing the Celtics online. We started this place to avoid the drama that seemed to be never ending over there. There is enough drama in our regular lives to be adding more in our down time.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this place and decide to hang around.

Ram.......
RE: BDC
Think I got put in timeout there 2-3 times. Thank goodness the powers that be circled the wagons a created this place. Like many here I have met most and have been a C's fan since the mid 60's.
And as of today I have 24 more work days before I hang things up and retire. And wouldn't it be nice to have the C's still playing into June !!
My son and I attended game 3 in the garden....and he sent me a message about going Thursday too but right now appears out of the question. Not so much the cost but Boston is just a bit too far away ( 5 hour drive ) He's a junior at Syracuse. He had little choice but to grow up and be a Celtic fan.
Anyway welcome aboard. !!!

Re: Boston.com shutting down the message boards?
Hi gang...I was a moderator on the Sox and Pats forums at BDC. While it was never technologically advanced, it was sort of funtional. About six weeks ago BDC went to what they referred to as "a new platform". Once they did that all of the site moderators got locked out immediately, and shortly after that many of the posters who were not mods also got locked out. Management was unwilling to sort this out and as of May 31 the forums there will all shut down. If you guys like, I can ask one of the posters who still has access there to try to post a link to this forum on the Celtics forum of BDC as I am sure they are looking for another place to talk about the team.
And BTW: this is an incredibly gritty team. They just never give up. Lose Bradley; lose Olynck: still tie up the series. Once they get a true superstar, like Durant, and select some of this year's top picks from the draft they are going to compete for a ring.

Pumpsie,
Long time; I hope you've been well. Still doing underwater photography?
If you can get a current BDC poster to post a link back to us that would be good. Since most of us came from BDC, we would be happy to have old friends join us here. As a matter of fact, there was a poster on the BDC board asking if we were online in a thread called New Celtics Forum Set Up. For whatever reason, I was unable to post a reply.

NY Celt, I will try to get one of the guys who still can post there to include a link to here on the Celtics forum. Seems once you sign off over there you can no longer log back in. I am completely locked out.
I am well thanks and although I haven't taken underwater pics in about a year, I am itching to get back in the water. Soon.....

Pumpsie,
Thanks for trying and any assist you can provide. It would be nice to get a group of similar posters reunited. I hope you stop by more frequently, and maybe post some of your photo work at some point. I seem to remember seeing a few pictures you took some time back; impressive stuff.

Re: Boston.com shutting down the message boards?
NY Celt, I took some underwater video last month and hope to do more this weekend.
Pumpsie (the Red Sox's first black player) and Ram, welcome aboard.
To all who hope to sign KD, I'm in that group too, but do we really think that'll happen? I bet Danny has a Plan B, C, and D already worked out if Durant doesn't come to Boston. Come to think about it, maybe we should make Dave Loggins' "Please Come to Boston" our theme song this Spring.

God willing, it could be beamed out over the Gahden after we beat the Hawks in Game 6 to wrap up that series.

W -
One of my college internships was with the Student Activities Board. I brought Dave Loggins in to do a show after swings and misses at landing a bigger act. He showed up stoned out of his mind (already a semi-forgotten one hit wonder) with this incredibly hot young thing he said was from Nashville and was going to be a "big star." Guess it was what he had to tell her to keep her around and interested long enough to come to Wisconsin for a freezing night in March, anyway.
Do you still explore old shipwrecks? Must be fascinating.

NY Celt, The last incredibly hot thing I had my hands on was a cast iron frying pan.
Yes, I am still searching for shipwrecks, now looking for a French Slaver, the Aimable Victoire which sank in August, 1792 off Sarasota. Only 9 years into this search. Maybe in another decade we'll find it.

Funny, if timely, video. If we can get Durant hooked up with all those top draft picks Ainge has sequestered over the past few years then the biggest problem the Celtics will have is which of their talented group to let go of. They already play about 9 deep or more, I think. Even guys like Rozier have potential. I don't think they are quite there yet, but they are a fun team to watch...very gritty. When Bradley went down, along with the injuries to Olynck and the fact that Crowder is playing at what he said is 75% I thought they might win one game against the Hawks. Now I think it will go 7.

Rosalie,
Was it the live stream version, like they ran last year? If it's the same one, they usually have a couple of local sportswriters in on the stream.
To throw an idea out to all, we do have a live stream feature, called Chatbox, that can be used by anyone, any time, that is especially suited to games. Pete got set up last year, but only a few of us tried it. For what it's worth, personally, I much prefer it. It's live as you type, so no waiting and reading a post well after it happened. If anyone wants to try it during a game next season, I'd be in.
You'll find the Chatbox in the lower left of the home page.
