Marcus's first outing
Had a scrimage this wet eve. He pitched the first inning against another small but pretty good local high school.
Three up three down on 2 pop ups and a grounder to third. 12 pitches 8 strikes. He's pretty pumped.
Like he said he has a good defense behind him and all he needs to do is hit his spots.
Coach used 6 different pitchers 1 inning each.

beat,
3 up and 3 down against the High School Major Leaguers! Did he just turn 15? That's impressive. Make sure you keep the San Francisco fan club up to date.

beat,
How tall is Marcus? As I remember, when I met him at the No Name restaurant in Boston, he's about 5'11". Is that right?

Yeah just turned 15 on Sunday, he's just about 6' even maybe 6 1/2 " only in 9th grade.
Jeb as for pitches he has a fastball 2 and 4 seem and really that is all he threw today. Has a change but doesn't trust it yet but getting better. Has a OK curve but coach doesn't want him throwing it until it's warmer.
Working on other stuff but like today he hit the spots and threw nothing down the middle.

Beat,
Glad to read about the first outing. There's nothing like starting out on the right foot (and the left arm). Congrats to Marcus.

beat,
Congrats on your son playing varsity as a freshman. I hope he makes it to the big leagues one day.
My son will be 15 tomorrow so you and I do have someting in common even if we root for different NBA teams...

Hope your son has a great birthday! Is he a Laker fan also and does he play any sports? And of course here in New York, Marcus is 1 year from getting a permit to drive!! (oh the humanity)
Marcus has played baseball since about when he could hold a bat. Long hours in the backyard perhaps are paying off a bit.
Major Leagues? Dreams? who knows, he's got a good work ethic. At the very least it might open a few college doors too.

beat,
Yes, my son is a big Lakers fan too. Sports have been a great bond for us. I am taking him and a couple of his friends to the Yankees game tonight for his B-Day.
He plays tennis and made the tennis team as a freshman which is a big accomplishment since he plays for the back to back state HS championship tennis team in Florida.
I am hoping like you that his tennis abilities will help him have more college opportunities.
In FL, you can get your permit at 15 and license at 16. Yikes...

Happy birthday to your son. I play tennis and Florida is serious. The town I grew up in had a private school called Baylor which produced Roscoe Tanner and Brian Gottfried my public school would just get thumped by those guys. Tennis is a grand sport you can play at a high level way into old age. Hope your son has a great day.
