hey now, I liked the Young pick back then also.

he looked like he could become a big time scorer /slasher in the NBA.

you can't see a guys drive and desire (heart?) though.

Look Ainge and the owners have DRIVEN this "fireworks are coming" for TWO full years now. When your "fireworks" are Rozier, Amir, Jaylen and a couple of Euro stashers....you get the ire of the fans you created.

Maybe they should just shut up about being "players" in the FA market and trade market and such from now on and just build the team. instead of creating unrealistic expectations.

I'd love to see the quote that where Ainge said "fireworks are coming"  Think the media and "some" fans built that up much more than he.

PS it's June !

Two, maybe three players in the last ten years taken at 16 have been worth it:

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4712285/ainge-hopes-to-blow-off-some-fireworks

"I’m going to try to blow off some fireworks, but I have to be patient as well and we have to make sure that we don’t do deals just to do deals," Ainge said Thursday during his weekly call to Boston sports radio 98.5 the Sports Hub. "We have to do the right deals. Those are a lot harder than most people think or believe or understand. I’m not making any promises, we have a busy summer ahead of us, and there's a lot of different directions we could go."

NBA Comparison: Gary Trent
Strengths: Modern face up power forward… Tremendous wingspan (measured at 7-1 feet) … Very good athlete with strong upper body and quick feet that help him make plays on both ends of the floor … Has improved his body and has shed some baby fat he had… Plays with a lot of passion … His body and shoulders suggest that he can add muscle in the future … He is really mobile for his size … Very good soft hands … Runs the floor extremely well for a big and is great in transition, with strong finishes at the basket … Always fights to establish good deep position … Moves well without the ball and he is a great slasher … Has shown the ability to turn to both shoulders when he is with his back on the basket… He already has some moves in the post with a lot of pump fakes … Improving shooter from the perimeter, going all the way to 3-point line … Can attack closeouts because possesses a good first step … Has improved on pick and roll situations as the screener … Already a threat on pick and pop situations as the screener … If he continues working he can become a prototypical Stretch-4 … Very good passer with good court vision… Can be the passer on High-Low situations … Relentless rebounder, especially on the offensive end of the floor… Willing defender… Has good low stance and really active hands, plus anticiption that help him make a lot of steals … His ability to cover ground quickly helps him when he defends pick and pop … If he continues working, his body structure and low center of gravity can help him become a good low post defender in the future … His defense off the ball is really good … Good weakside defender, with ability to challenge shots – and even make some blocks – thanks to his good jumping ability on two feet… Triming/toning down his body some would likely increase his speed and athleticism ...

Weaknesses: Despite his great length, at 6-8 he is viewed as being undersized as a power forward for the NBA level … He is still pretty raw in most aspects of the game … Hasn’t really be tested against elite competition yet, so it remains to be seen how his game will translate at the next level … Feel for the game is a question mark … Must continue working on his body and hit the gym to be able to become even stronger… Body type suggests that he may have to work hard in order to not become overweight ... At times he needs time to gather before jumping which can hurt him at the next level … Second jump isn’t as good as his first … Drives almost exclusively on straight lines and, at the moment, he really favors going right … His post game remains a work in progress and the same applies for his footwork with his back to the basket … He has shown the ability to turn over both shoulders, but he really prefers to turn on his left shoulder … Has really improved as a shooter, but he still lacks consistency from the 3-point line … At times he changes his release when opponents close out on him, with his shooting hand going a little bit to the right … His ball handling, especially his left hand, needs work … He sometimes sets screens at the wrong angles and doesn’t always roll hard to the basket … He really prefers to pop out rather than roll to the basket after he sets a screen, which is something that defenses usually read easily, but this can improve through time and experience … Lateral quickness is an issue on defense, since quick players can beat him off the dribble … Post defense needs improvement … Pick and pop defense is average at the moment … His high energy game and willingness to defend are used against him by more experienced players who can draw fouls from him … Has the tendency to gamble on defense, looking for the steal …

Outlook: Many in France believe he can become a Draymond Green type of versatile forward in the future ... Speaks English fluently ... His strong finish to the season (had a streak of four 20+ point games) has him on the bubble as a first round pick ... Played for one of France's Pro-A teams Rouen, who suffered through a difficult season, finishing among the bottom few teams in the league ... Worked out in Los Angeles against Vanderbilt bigman Damain Jones in late May ...

Notes: Measured in the Summer of 2015 at 6'7" without shoes, 7'1.5" wingspan and 8'9" standing reach... Turned a lot of heads with his performances in the 2015 Eurocamp … Played in Pro B until season 2014/15, which means that season 2015/16 was actually his first in Pro A… Signed a 3 year contract with Rouen in 2015… His favorite player is Draymond Green…

Stefanos Makris 5/29/16

Strengths: Has a tremendous combination of natural strength and explosiveness ... Bull in a China shop type of strength on the block. Absolutely bowls opponents over with his incredible core strength. Massive body structure but also has good dexterity ... Considering he's French, it's safe to assume it's natural strength. Meaning he could become even stronger when he gets on a serious weight training program ... Has extremely nimble feet and surprising skill for a player his size ... Has very good form and touch on his shot ... Can extend out to 3 point range with success and without having his shot mechanics break down ... Unlike many bigs his size, he can make plays in transition showing tremendous anticipation on steals as well as tipping balls without committing fouls ... Great body control both in the air and also shifting his weight to make plays on the ball ... Good at using fakes to get defenders off balance ... Understands how to use his massive arms and body strength to clear out space for shots ... Feel for game is solid ... Strong motor, competes hard. Smart kid ...

Weaknesses: Undersized at 6-7 for PF/C position, though he's got good length with a wingspan that appears in 7-foot range ... Thick limbs and barrel check limit his flexibility to some degree ... Lower body, legs and ass could use toning ... Plays extremely aggressive so will need to stay out of foul trouble ... Needs to improve from the line, as he his below 60 percecnt this season, at 58.3% ... Shot just 51 % from the floor so will need to improve his efficiency from the floor ...

Notes: Measured in the Summer of 2015 at 6'7" barefoot(MY NOTE:  That translates to almost 6'9" in sneakers), 7'1.5" wingspan, 8'9" standing reach, 24.5 standing vertical, 27.5 max vert, 3.425 3/4 court sprint ...

This sounds like the kid is a steal. I suspect his length and strength can compensate for the comments that he is "undersized". He will handle a 6'10" 235 lb PF like a ragdoll. Other than his overall mass, he strikes me as a bit different than Sully. He doesn't look fat, just strong. He's both pretty fast, and quick, with good body control. I wonder if he had played at an American University/College if his draft stock would have been higher.

If the Celtics were offered 3, 24, 26, Noel and Covington for pick #3 I would have done that deal. Not sure they were, but still.

They could have thrown Philly pick #58 they wasted on a guy most didn't have in their top 100 in Abdel Nader.

If DA liked Yabusele that much he still goes at 16, Zizic at 23, I'd take Korkmaz at 24 like Philly did but Skal Labissierre at 26. You have 3 guys stashed overseas and Skal and Bentil in the D-league.

Noel would pair well next to Olynyk. Amir is a place holder for Zizic and Mickey/Jerebko could go offense/defense at the 4. Covington is a better 3 point shooter than Turner and a more than adequate backup for Crowder.

Boston would have to move a guard or two, probably only room for one of Young/Hunter as the taller wing and one of Jackson/Rozier as the gritty athletic backup PG. But it could've been done no problem. The expectation would be that Korkmaz would be better than either Young or Hunter by 2018.

That is my 'what if' for the draft. I'd have really liked that team even if no FA's were incoming and I think that trade with Philly made the most sense of all the rumors I heard floating out there. If we could have gotten Saric, let Philly keep Covington and pick 26 and given up Young, Jerebko and pick 35 instead, and drafted Davis at pick 31, I'd have been even happier.

Seems like Yabusele has a floor of guys like Bass and Gary Trent, 12/7 rotation PF's who do their job day in and day out.

Fran Frachilla called him the Larry Johnson of France. Now that is his absolute crazy lucky ceiling.

A lot of others put his ceiling as a Boris Diaw or Draymond Green type, w/o quite the playmaking ability but potentially a slightly better athlete and 3 point shooter. After another year overseas I would expect to be pleasantly surprised by the kid when he carves out a role at age 20-21 on the 2017-18 Celtics title contending club.
