Re: Rondo to Chicago
my brother and I were just discussing him in great detail, he only plays on one side now
the Rondo that completely shutdown the top points is a sad memory, who wants a one way player that can't hit FT's?

Re: Rondo to Chicago
So in the end Rondo's journey looks like this:
1.) Once he proved he was recovered from the ACL tear he turned down a 2-3 year extension in the 12-13 million per season range that Ainge offered him during the end of 2013-14 season (which Ainge predicted he would)
2.) Ainge tells him "in good faith" before the 2014-15 season that if he is a leader of men, great locker room guy, mentor to Smart, puts in 100%, gets back close to his 2009-12 form that he remains the C's PG of the future and they would look to keep him summer of 2015 with an offer starting at at least 5/70.
3. Rondo shoots his way out of town being a bad leader, playing no defense and overall quitting on his young team
4. Rondo is even worse in Dallas
5. Rondo plays for the dysfunctional Kings on a 1 year 9.5 million deal where he puts up his typical solid #'s but does not have the impact on the game or the win column those numbers should translate to.
6. Rondo signs 2/28 deal with Chicago, a team that should be making plans to start tanking IMMEDIATELY, as a replacement for departed local hero Derrick Rose.
So Rondo manages to make a few million less than Danny initially offered him spring of 2014 on his little journey from east to midwest to west coast back to the midwest where he tarnished his reputation even further than he did in Boston.

But he got filthy rich in the process. So he wins.
With this contract he will now have made $98 million conducting his NBA life exactly the way he wanted and not listening to anyone else. That's the bottom line.

Yeah, sure, whatever you say. Ask Rondo if he would go back and change things from his last 3 years once he started rehabbing his knee and see what he says. If he says no, he's lying.
Ask anyone "Hey, if you had the chance to DOUBLE your income over a 5 year period in your life just by living up to your potential, giving 100%, being a good leader to younger people and conforming to the good intentions of your bosses, could you do it? Is 'conducting your life the way you want to' ever worth 20-30-40 million and burning bridges in 3 major US cities when all you are being asked to is play a game?"
Pretty sure Rajon looks deep down inside himself and knows he did not "win" the last 3 years of his life and being 'filthy rich' changes none of that. He was a winner for half of his NBA career and now he is a loser. No way around it.

Rondo is a stubborn MF and has shown he doesn't care about repercussions. You (and I) may think he's pissed away the last three years of his life but I'm damn sure he doesn't. What he cares most about is not letting anyone tell him how he should do things. He has shown he doesn't care about being a good teammate, employee or defender anymore. He can live his life the way he wants and knows there will always be someone who will offer him millions to play ball. Until he's in his late thirties probably.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. He is stubborn and he would probably never admit it. But he 100% made mistakes and someone as smart as he is obviously will know that. Which is why I said deep down Rondo is well aware that he f'd up this portion of his career. No doubt.

Making $100 million and owning a championship ring goes a long way toward talking yourself into the perception you've lived your life the right way. And I'm sure Rondo rationalizes it that way. When you're as stubborn as Rondo is you don't accept any suggestion imposed on you by someone else that you screwed up. He is constantly being awarded fat contracts. And knows he doesn't have to play defense anymore. That took actual work and it's clear he has an aversion to that. Like trying to improve his jump shot and free throw shooting which has stagnated for nearly ten years. He led the league in assists (again) and got rewarded with a two year $28 million deal. So life is great. I'm sure he sleeps a lot better than you or I do.

Again, I highly doubt it. But we can agree to disagree. This is a guy who we all knew felt he deserved the same 5/85 contract John Wall got back in 2013-14 and that price tag is what began to drive him and the Celtics apart. Mike Conley Jr., a guy who never made an all-star team, just got 5/150.
Smart people DEEP DOWN know they've screwed up. We can both call Rondo stubborn and say he hasn't improved areas of his game or hasn't played defense. But you can't say he isn't smart and you know how he truly feels. You can't say that someone is happy being paid FAR less than their peers simply b/c it is still a lot of money. It's not in his nature to think like that. But again, we can agree to disagree. He's not being 'rewarded' as far as the market in his profession is concerned, he's being disrespected.

Re: Rondo to Chicago
I just glad he isn't our problem.
I really don't care if he is "happy" or not. He was great here early and played his heart out, but that was then and this is now.
