Re: Here we go
We were too far behind in KD's mind in ground to make up. CLE will have their hands full defending.

Re: Here we go
To me, this is like LeBron coming to the Celtics from Cleveland, instead of Miami, after KG and Pierce and Allen beat him every year. If you can't beat them, join them. That's what this is.
I'm proud we came this close, but this is NOT superstar behavior. It's whipped dog behavior.

Re: Here we go
Great try Danny, I was impressed with how far the team went to try and get him.
They were right up there, Now we move on to plan B, whatever that is.
I am sorry, I think this is a big mistake. One basketball, this is Curry's team, where does leave Klay Thompsom? Green? They all love to shoot. what are they going to do try to beat teams by 50 every night????? Something just does not seem right here

Re: Here we go
They will not match Barnes deal or anything for Ezeli (IMO).
replace Barnes with Durant...yeah, I'd do that deal all day and every day myself.
not sure where Ainge can go now. Zeller and Sully could both be back I guess.
and not sure why anyone thinks its a mistake for Durant?
he wants a ring...Cleveland and GS are the top places to get one in the next couple years.
Case closed.

Going to be very interesting to see how "the Big Four" distribute the rock, and how happy each of them will be with their share......

Durant just made himself a villain, like LeBron was for a few years when he signed with Miami.

Re: Here we go
Why do you think people are questioning the move? Good luck to him but I want to see it work.
There is just one basketball in a game, with all the shooters they have, it is a big question a to who will be willing to give up their shot. Remember the '86 team? It was Parish who changed his game and gave up alot of his offense so that Bird, McHale, Ainge, could be the big offensive players. One has to be willing to do this. Jerry West finally beat the Celtics where it hurts the most,

Re: Here we go
Time to move on.
Amir will get his option picked up. He was told, by Danny, that would happen if we didn't get Durant. $12M.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jerebko's gets picked up too. In fact, $5M for him in this free agent market, he's probably kicking himself right now. He's an absolute steal at that price.
Sully? I don't know. It depends, I suppose, upon what offers he gets (none, so far) and how well Frenchy does in summer league and whether Zizic gets bought out.
Our depth chart, as of today (assuming Amir and Jonas):
Bigs: Horford, Amir
Swings: Kelly, Jerebko, Mickey
Wings: Crowder, Brown, Young
Ball Handlers: Thomas, Rozier, Bradley, Hunter
Possibles (either because they are RFAs or rookies):
Bigs: Sully, Zizic, Frenchy
Swings: Bentil
Wings: Nader
Ball Handlers: Jackson
The only ball handler I feel really good about is IT. Rozier is still raw as a floor general point guard. Hunter has potential, he showed he sees the floor well, but he isn't Turner. I think there might be an opportunity for Demetrius Jackson here.
Summer league this afternoon.

Re: Here we go
Has anyone even offered Sully a contract for Danny to have to match? I think Zeller is real trade bait, there is interest in him as a back up center. Young is on your list, do you really think he is going to stick?
Mickey not playing in tonights game, hurt his shoulder. Ugh!

Already started hating 'em during the Finals. Got a head start on most people.

Re: Here we go
I'd hoped he'd come to Boston. Not surprised that he didn't, but GSW? I didn't see that coming.
On the bright side, the summer league games are going to be even more interesting.

Re: Here we go
Ezeli will be an unrestricted free agent, as GSW renounces rights to him to clear space for Durant.
Bogut is expected to be traded.
Who will their centers be? Marreese Speights?!
A centerless team. A new concept.

Re: Here we go
I read that he signed a short term deal to go there (2 year with a player option after 1), the same one that people said he'd likely sign to stay in OKC. In this way, he keeps his options wide open. He can play next year in GS and likely get a ring, then opt out and sign long term with the Warriors, or move on to become the centerpiece of his own team again. It's a smart move. Likely means he knew Westbrook wouldn't be back in OKC after next year, and he didn't want to be there when the Thunder trade him mid season rather than letting him walk.

Why would he want to go back? Don't you think by then Westbrook will be gone? OKC will be nothing

I meant that he probably decided being there next year wasn't his best chance at a ring, as the team would likely trade one or both of him and Westbrook at the deadline rather than letting them both walk after the season for nothing.
By going to GS, he can compete for a ring next year, then opt out, get his long-term max deal under the new cap, and either stay in GS if that is working out well, or move on to a place he wants to be for the next 4 years.

Re: Here we go
I think Durant is there for the duration. I don't think he wants to go through this again.
Here are the players in their final contract year at GSW:
Steph Curry, Iggy, Bogut, Livingston.
Steph Curry will be a max $ player. Klay Thompson makes $18M next year. Green makes $16.4M next year. With Durant that means $91.4M in salary just for 4 players.
Something has to give.

Re: Here we go
Congrats to KD on his signing with the Warriors. It really makes sense for a guy who wants a ring to go to the situation best able to bring him one. That would be GS. Those guys seem to have no problem playing as a team so expect them to continue to do so. We may not have gotten the player we wanted but we got the player we needed. Horford is going to take us to the next level and with a little luck and a lot of hard work. next June, KD will discover what we have known all along. He should have signed with the about to be 18 time NBA champion, Boston Celtics. You heard it here first. Boston takes the East and beats GS in the finals, in six games. I'll post the scores later.

Re: Here we go
One of the unfortunate side effects of Durant signing with GSW is that Westbrook is more likely to be traded now. That will put OKC into a power dive that could challenge Brooklyn for the bottom. Even if Westbrook isn't traded OKC will suck in 2017-2018 when he leaves and we own Brooklyn's pick.

Re: Here we go
I think KD did the math on several levels.
First off, they were finalist 4 years ago. Four years later they are 1 game from being there again yet go on a horrific 3 game losing streak and bow out. So his future fate is in the hands of OKC management, which had never won a championship. That's back sliding at best.
Second, the three finalist this week were us plus Horford, GSW and OKC. We were clearly the dark horse but with history on our side. GSW had a recent championship and was within 1 minute of having another. And then OKC. So he had the correct three finalist. GSW was his odds on favorite.
Finally, good money for two years and a change of venue. $ 27M for the next two years works out just fine and he gets a major stab at a championship. As for the East, it is who can stop CLE. Danny is running out of Plan A's now that the beached whales are all getting signed up.
He made the right choice. We will see next year in the finals of GSW v. CLE Part III if he's finally going to get over the hump. And we will get to see it (un)ravel before our eyes.
