"Man, the 2013 NBA draft was truly awful. Actually, it was the worst ever."
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fancy-stats/wp/2016/07/15/man-the-2013-nba-draft-was-truly-awful-actually-it-was-the-worst-ever
A re-draft today, based on advanced metrics:
1. Rudy Gobert (No. 27 pick in 2013 draft)
2. Mason Plumlee (No. 22)
3. Gorgui Dieng (No. 21)
4. Steven Adams (No. 12)
5. Giannis Antetokounmpo (No. 15)
6. Kelly Olynyk No. 13)
7. Cody Zeller (No. 4)
8. Victor Oladipo (No. 2)
9. Jeff Withey (No. 39)
10. Nerlens Noel (No. 6)
11. Otto Porter (No. 3)
12. Andre Roberson (No. 26)
13. Tony Mitchell (No. 37)
14. Lucas Nogueira (No. 16)
15. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (No. eight)
16. C.J. McCollum (No. 10)
17. Mike Muscala (No. 44)
18. Solomon Hill (No. 23)
19. Allen Crabbe (No. 31)
20. James Ennis (No. 50)
21. Michael Carter-Williams (No. 11)
22. Joffrey Lauvergne (No. 55)
23. Raul Neto (No. 47)
24. Ryan Kelly (No. 48)
25. Reggie Bullock (No. 25)
26. Trey Burke (No. 9)
27. Alex Len (No. 5)
28. Isaiah Canaan (No. 34)
29. Ben McLemore (No. 7)
30. Tim Hardaway (No. 24)
While the article accurately points out how weak that draft was, some of their re-draft positions are ludicrous:
No way the Greek Freak should be as low as 5. Below Dieng? I would even take him over Gobert. And CJ McCollum DROPS to 16 from 10??? Are you kidding me??? Below Tony Mitchell (#13) who's scored 22 points in his life??? And Jeff Withey, #9 who's done nothing in his life but bang (and supposedly abuse) a Playboy centerfold??? And Allen Crabbe at only 19, below a bunch of stiffs?
I don't get it. Other ridiculous ones on there I don't have time to go into.
Article calls it "a perfect re-draft." Ok...
By the way, why does this site always turn the number eight into a smiley face? That's really annoying. Can the mods answer that? I decided to write the word out for Caldwell-Pope's position on the list.

Re: "Man, the 2013 NBA draft was truly awful. Actually, it was the worst ever."
I will explain the #8 thing again.
There is nothing we can do about it. It is a coding thing and the combination of a "8" and a ")" creates a smiley face. Whenever it happens you can edit your post and put a "space" between the 8 and the ).
No space:
With space: 8 )
It looks a little odd, but whacha gonna do? It is easier than typing "eight".
Other combinations cause different smiley faces:
; and ) =
; and ( = ;(
8 and ) =
8 and ( = 8(
: and ) =
: and ( =
So it looks like it doesn't work every time for frowny faces.

The 2000 draft was way worse than 2013. It will likely remain the worst draft of all-time until eternity.

Giannis, Gobert, Plumlee, Dieng, McCollum, Caldwell-Pope, Oladipo, Adams, Len and Noel represent 10 guys who are quality NBA starters. There are another 8-10 guys in that list of 30 (including Olynyk and 75 million man Allen Crabbe) who at the very least are above average bench players.
The 2000 draft featured only Kenyon Martin (1), Mike Miller (5), Jamal Crawford (, Hedo Turkoglu (16), Jamaal Magloire (19) and Michael Redd (43) as quality NBA starters. Six guys in two rounds!
There were maybe 10 others who had careers where they could call themselves average rotation players: Mihm, Dooling, Przybilla, Etan Thomas, Speedy Claxton, Q Richardson, E House, Najera, Brian Cardinal, DeShawn Stevensen.
Easily the worst draft ever.

Yeah Anthony Bennett. Definitely the biggest bust of a #1 pick in history so far. WAY more than Kenyon Martin in 2000. 2000 remains the worst draft of all time though, and it isn't even close.
At least there are like 23-24 of the first 31 guys picked in 2013 I'd want on the Celtics roster right now, 19-20 of 'em would in the C's rotation and 9-11 guys would be starting over at least one of our existing starters, mostly big men starting next to Horford over Olynyk (Len, Noel, Zeller, Dieng, Gobert, Plumlee, Adams) and of course Giannis would start over Crowder and McCollum, Caldwell-Pope and Oladipo probably all start over Bradley. And who wouldn't want Crabbe, Otto Porter, Muhammad or Robertson right now providing some stability at backup SF after the departure of Turner?

2013 draft had lots of rock solid big man talent. Look at all the rotation/starting level bigs drafted outside the top 10 in that draft.

the "based on advanced metrics" tells you everything you need to know.
after looking at that "advanced metrics" list and how it ranked players.....I'll stick with regular stats, thank you.
