Bynum's return for Lakers remains mystery
http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_14827222
Lakers center Andrew Bynum underwent an MRI exam on his injured left Achilles tendon Monday, and the results were unchanged. He continues to suffer from a strain and there is no timetable for his return to the active roster, a team spokesman said in an e-mail.
Bynum will continue to receive therapy from the team's athletic training staff.
He was injured while running back on defense in the third quarter of the Lakers' victory March 19 over the Minnesota Timberwolves. He sat out for the eighth consecutive game Sunday, when the Lakers lost to the San Antonio Spurs 100-81.
The Lakers are 4-4 without the 7-foot Bynum in their lineup.
Jackson fined
Lakers coach Phil Jackson received a $35,000 fine from the NBA for criticizing the referees after Sunday's game. Jackson was displeased with the manner in which calls went against Ron Artest, who was locked in a physical battle with Manu Ginobili.
"They wouldn't let Ron play the way he played prior to (a second-quarter technical foul)," Jackson said Sunday. "(Ginobili) could hook Ron (who) didn't get what was going on and ended up getting too many fouls on him.
"The way we ended up the half, I think turned the referees against us and when you do that, that's an unfortunate thing. Ron didn't back off and didn't read that official well enough to know (when) to back off. … Ginobili forced the issue and got the calls."

Bryant sat out against the Nuggets with swelling on his knee too.
Obviously, the Lakers will have problems in the playoffs IF these two players are out. The fact that Bynum's condition has not changed in two weeks does not bode well for his effective return (as opposed to just being in the lineup covered in rust) in the near future.
Kobe's injury is interesting in that it was not caused by any particular thing (to the best of my knowledge). It's just wear and tear. Bryant has had a remarkably injury free career and, technically, this isn't an injury, but it could (stress could) be a sign of age. Jackson thinks it could be as he is quoted here. As a preface, Jackson says it's nothing that can't be controlled, but he does say it's "what happens with players as they go into this age and play".

When Pierce got swelling on his knee, he sat for a while and then, when the swelling didn't go down, had it drained. It took him a while to get his game back and one can argue he still hasn't.
We'll see. Fortunately for the Lakers, their magic number to clinch #1 seed in the west is only 1, so they can afford to rest everybody.

loss at home to a terrible wizards team...dont look especialy good right now. Sheed has not been what we'd hoped nor has Daniels. Nothing seems to be clicking into place as the playoffs approach. Troubling times for the boston celtics. If I didnt have you guys to talk to I'd prolly be schizo.

jeb,
If you're counting on us to keep you from going schizo, you're in a world of hurt.

Jeb,
Just get a butter knife and..... Shock Treatment Therapy. It worked before at least on your Avatar.
I'm not schizo but I did feel like sticking needles in my eyes last night in the 3rd quarter.

hoop,
If you feel like sticking needles in your eyes, schizophrenia might be a welcome preference to whatever you got.

Bob,
The problem with that is, if I do it to myself thinking it is someone else it will probably hurt both of us, I mean him...err..whateva. Let's just say I'm glad the C's played well enought last night to win and that may have saved a call to 911. I feel much better now....
