My Sincere Compliments to the Board
As I leave on vacation (but not a vacation from the trusty laptop), I have to compliment the people on this board for displaying remarkable restraint. For optimists and pessimists alike, these have been very trying times. On several occasions, just when it has seemed things couldn't get any worse, they did.
All of us have expressed negative thoughts. But it has been done in a mature, rational, and usually constructive manner, suggesting that not one person on this board could be considered a frontrunner.
I'm off to the airport thinking that, regardless of how this team does from this point onward, the allegiance and hopes of all board members will be heavily behind the Celtics.
I'm looking forward to the April 24 party in San Francisco. (See party thread for details as they unfold.) There are many unknowns surrounding that affair. I know my wife and I will be there, but I don't have any idea how many others might show up. Some of the specifics cannot be crystallized until the playoff schedule is released (but I hope possible attendees will try to hold their calendars open for the afternoon and evening of that day). And I don't know whether all of us will be dousing one another with celebratory beer or crying in it. But one thing I'm certain of is that we're looking forward to renewing some acquaintances and making some new ones.
Seeing The Cooz make the Red Auerbach Award presentation to Rondo last night took me back to 1950, when #14 was the reason I first became interested in basketball. So last night's ceremony was a truly poignant moment for me. Although it was just the latest in the passing of a lot of torches over many years, whatever iteration of the Celtics is on the floor, I will always love it. I hope others feel the same way.
Go Celtics!

Have a great time at those two games, Rosalie. I can't imagine a better tonic for what ails the Celtics than your presence. Root them home.

Hoop,
Thanks, Hoop. We try to get there once a year and Fisherman's Wharf is one place we'll definitely hit for some crab. I'll find some place to sit and commune with Alcatraz, which is my favorite single thing in SFO. Not the prison—the island. A lot of people don't know that beautiful wildflowers grow out there among all the rocks. I have photos of the city as seen through a patch of flowers, and I enjoy asking people where they think it was taken from. They never guess it. Alcatraz once inspired me to write a poem (not one of my strengths) entitled something like "Ode to Ugly Beauty." I have a library on "Alky."
We'll hoist one for you out there.

First time I've ever been complimented for being a glutton for punishment.

Oh, come on Bob, you know you love the Celts. Win, lose or draw would you have changed one thing three years ago???? I would still make the trade, and
go for it again. No way we would have won #17 with Jefferson, look at what has happened to him in Minnesota.
This has been a tough year, there is no doubt there. I was really wound up at the beginning of the season, but there have been disappointments along the way that have ticked me off. However, I am now and always will be a Boston Celtic fan. Hey, I sat through the Hank Finkel years!!
I will keep the faith for the rest of the season. I have no grand illusions, however, you never know what can happen. LA isn't exactly burning down the league either. Unfortunately, that means that Cleveland has a shot at it all.
My one thought in defense of Sheed is that he was not brought here to play some of the extensive minutes he has been required to play. We all thought that he would be a compliment to Garnett rather than his replacement at times. He is a frustrating player, I will give you that, but maybe, just maybe,
we will see why he was brought here. If not, I do not see him in a Celtic
uniform next year. I would give him to Charlotte if they still wanted him!!!
KEEP THE FAITH!!!!

Rosalie,
Sheed is averaging 22 minutes a game (10 less than last year). That's not "extensive minutes" and is exactly the amount the Celts projected for him to back up both the 4 and 5 spots for us this year. We knew, coming off the serious injury KG had last year, Sheed might be called upon to start a few games, which he has. His predominantly lousy play for us doesn't require any of us to be apologists for him in any way. And I'm sure you realize that.

It's amazing what a high proportion of threads turn into Sheed threads.
