Gorman throws cold water on Anthony Davis-to-Celtics rumors
By Toucher and Rich
Encouraged by all the recent trade talk involving the Celtics?
Don't be.
Celtics play-by-play announcer Mike Gorman, speaking on Toucher & Rich, doesn't believe either James Harden or DeMarcus Cousins would be in a good fit in Boston. But the dream of dreams -- acquiring Anthony Davis from the Pelicans -- is something Gorman flatly says is not going to happen:
"Joel Meyers, who's been around the league forever and is a great play-by-play guy who does New Orleans, [told Brian Scalabrine] and I . . . 'No shot [Davis is] leaving. There's no shot he's leaving. He is anchored to New Orleans, loves New Orleans, loves living there and wants to ultimately be the leader of a good team in New Orleans.'
"Well, good luck to him if that's the case, because that's going to take a while."

He doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract so if the organization feels getting 3-4 lotto picks from the Celtics is better than what Davis is bringing to the table they could move him.
But I agree, it is harder to move a superstar committed to staying than a disgruntled one like Cousins.

Ram,
It isn't Cousins who is disgruntled (and I googled that and a lot of people use that word in reference to him), other than the fact that he doesn't like to lose and that is all the Kings have done since he got there (I believe it has been 10 years since they were in the playoffs), it's the management. They want to make the playoffs (go figure) and are coming around to the fact that Boogie isn't the leader to get them there. That doesn't mean he isn't a talent, he sure as hell is, he just isn't a leader and a leaderless team has little hope of progressing. This absence of leadership isn't limited to DeMarcus Cousins neither. The ownership is flaky and has turned the head coaching position into a revolving door. I live in the SF bay area. While Sacramento isn't the bay area we do hear word out of there from time to time and I have yet to hear Cousins say one single disparaging word about Sacramento, the fans or wanting to leave. Anthony Davis has openly committed to New Orleans and yet there are rumors of him being traded (how ridiculous! As if any team could produce a package that could convince NOP to part with him). Cousins says he is committed to Sacto and nobody believes him. Would he be happy being moved? Sure, if it was to a playoff team, but I have heard ZERO talk of him requesting a trade.
Kobe Bryant wasn't happy when the Lakers sucked, towards the end of his career. They beat us, in LA, and celebrated like they just won the Championship even though their season record was beyond awful and he ripped them up for that. He went on The Tonight Show and was asked about what he thought about their celebration and he gave a "death stare". He hated losing and winning one regular season game, even against us, meant nothing special to him. Nobody accused him of "being disgruntled" etc because he was a multiple champion and proved himself. He also had a team (e.g. Gasol, Odom) that took some of the weight off his shoulders. Who has Cousins had to take the weight off of him?
I know a lot of people on this board don't want Boogie in green. Rosalie, for example, calls him a "man-child". Personally, I like a player who hates losing and now, in his 7th season, has had enough of it. Paul Pierce went to Danny Ainge and Wyc Grousbeck in the summer of 2007 and told them "trade me while I still have value, or bring in some players that will get us to the Championship round". Well, we all know what happened with that, but has anybody called Pierce "disgruntled" for forcing that issue, or did they just say "he paid his dues on crappy teams and now he wants something to happen because he is sick of losing and that's a good thing"?

Bob, I agree that men grow up a lot between when Boogie was really doing immature things (although never arrested) age 20-23 and now at 25-26 when he just wants to win. The word disgruntled could still be used to describe him, only as his feelings toward the crummy organization and losing than his personality.
The Celtics have enough leaders, strong personalities and most of all humble "we're all one superstar" guys for Cousins to not feel like he'd have to be "the man" in Boston. He'd have two other all-star's and in Thomas a guy to take the end of game shot-maker load off him most of the time and in Horford a defender who can guard whoever Boogie is less comfortable guarding of the other teams two bigs and never complain about the # of shots he takes.
I think he would grow up for good here (like Parish when he arrived in Boston at age 26 with a rap as being immature) and be a solid all-NBA 2nd or 3rd team player through the duration of his current contract and max extension (6.5 years). With ONE All-NBA player, two solid all-stars in Thomas and Horford and 2 borderline all-stars in Crowder and Bradley that would be a terrifying lineup.
Brown, Rozier, Zeller, Yabusele and both Net's first rd picks for Boogie? Tough pill to swallow but that is likely what it would take. If the C's can keep at least one pick with top 3 protection that would be great.

Bitter pill to swallow Ram, but I'd take that medicine.

Ram,
I would not give up both Nets picks due to Cousins only have one and three quarters seasons left on his contract. Two or more years and maybe I could see both Nets picks going to Sacramento.
The Cs have some other first round picks to include in such a deal that could go with one of the picks from the Nets to still make the deal worth.
Cousins is much more likely to be an All Star in a Cs uniform way before either of the Nets picks will be since he would just about automatically become the best center in the Eastern Conference even before getting to try on a green jersey.
