Re: Doc leaving after this season?
We may as well end the speculation now; I actually have some unpublished information and Doc has indeed decided to leave coaching in order to spend more time with his family.
I'm also aware of the team's plans going forward, and although he didn't really want me to name the replacement I said I felt I had to come forward with it...It's Sam. That's right, Sam's taking over.
In initial statements he's already been heard to say "I don't know for certain what the roster will look like, but I will tell you this much; these guys are going to run, with none of this half-court set namby-pamby garbage". He's also made a few colorful remarks about anyone who doesn't bear down and defend and where in Boston Harbor they might land.
Stay tuned. He's confident enough in his ability to get results that he's already contacted the duck-boat tour company and has on at least one occasion referred to Danny Ainge as "Junior".

beat,
Nice touch with the back-up point. Lead boots might seem appropriate too.
As long as we're drawing this whole thing up ourselves here, how about this..?
Big-man coach; William Felton himself.

tj,
My money'd be on the snowflake in hell making it to the Devil's freezer before Matt Guokas becoming the Celtics coach.

Re: Doc leaving after this season?
Larry Brown has said he's going to play out the last 2 years of his contract in Charlotte.
How about Thib, or is the consensus that he's lost the team's ear too?

NYCelt,
As long as you let the cat out of the bag, tell the whole story. They're paying me by the pound—in the vicinity of $8 mil a season.

Re: Doc leaving after this season?
Perhaps rebuilding is in the works and Doc does not want to be a baby sitter as before. Perhaps he has had enough of the in fighting between team members and see's that the whole thing could blow-up. Doc would also leave on top with a winning percentage behind him and his stock would be worth gold to a team looking for a change in coaching. Hey life would be great, watch the kids play hoops, get paid millions of dollars as an announcer.
Tom T. should get the nod but who knows what Danny has in mind.
