Post Game Thread - vs Milwaukee Bucks, Away
A great win, without two starters. We were up by 16 and then they came back to take their first lead in the 4th (making it possible for it to be merely a good game, but not a great one, by my terms. To be a "great" game you have to win. "Nice tries", as far as I am concerned, are for people who think pats on the back are acceptable replacements for parades. Sometimes that's all you get, and that's all you deserve, but that doesn't mean you should like it, get used to it or use the same words to describe "nice tries" as victory). A franchise setting recodr 42 points in the 1st quarter but with 3 regulation quarters after that with no more than 22 points scored by us in any of them. THAT is something Brad needs to work on. I'm glad we are past the icy starts we saw in previous years but we should work towards consistency. The good news is that, when the chips were down, we executed and won and that has tremendous value moving forward. Furthermore, The King In The Fourth (I prefer "King OF the Fourth" but...) only had 8 points in the 4th quarter and zero points in OT. We won, scoring only 10 points, because of the aggressiveness of Jae Crowder earning, and hitting 4ftas, a dunk by Kelly and a flip shot by Amir.
Crowder went to Marquette, which is in Milwaukee. He played like it was homecoming. 20 points. Only 5-13, but he was omnipresent and grabbing a bunch of traffic rebounds.
Kelly with 17 and 7 (tying Amir for Celtic high boards). 7-12 shooting but only 1-5 from 3. That means 6-7 from 2 and I like a 7'er grabbing opposing coaches attention down low. Monroe gave him defensive grief in OT but that's what Monroe does. That's what he did at Detroit and that's what he does in Milwaukee. He is a load and a half on offense but mediocre on defense. Monroe came off the bench and played 35 minutes. Kelly came off the bench and played 36 minutes. Monroe scored 14 points on 4-10 and 13 rebounds while Kelly had 17 points on 5-7 and 7. Who had the better game? Probably comparable, despite Monroe sleep-walking for most of the game and only waking up in the 4th. If Monroe abused Kelly in the low post in the 4th who do you think was giving up back door dunks and fast break dunks to Kelly? Just because you can see Kelly's number when Monroe scores that doesn't make it worse than when Kelly dunks and Monroe's number is nowhere to be seen. In fact...feel free to disagree.
I wonder where arambone has disappeared to. His man, Thon Maker, started. Looked lost out there in the beginning, just standing around, but perked up some later. Got stuffed by Marcus Smart in the 4th. That's embarrassing. Apparently Kidd has a problem with Monroe, so he's giving the kid (one 'd') a chance. Not too impressive, but he hasn't played a lot neither.
Beasley is a taller Gerald Green. Can put up a bunch of points in a short time but considers defense an afterthought. He sure can score though, in a bunch of ways. He is getting $1.4M this year and is a free agent after this year. 17 points on 7-10 and 7 boards in 22 minutes gets my attention.
I think Terry Rozier has regressed a bit. His shooting has fallen WAY off. His defense is still quite good but this has turned into a shooter's league.
IT, 37 points on 11-21 and 6-11 from 3. Ho-hum. How spoiled are we?
We are now tied with Toronto for 2nd place in the East. Probably won't last, the Raptors host the baby harp seals from Orlando tonight.

KO has turned things around in January. Averaging 11 ppg and 5.8 boards and shooting .582 and .417 from behind the arc. He has been killing it with the back door cuts.
Next year Jalen is going to finish those impressive drives to the rim.

8 boards in 30 minutes vs Orlando = .26/minute
8 boards in 28 minutes vs Bucks = .28/minute
Season-to-date is 6.0 boards/36mpg = .166/minute.
An excellent increase in efficiency. We NEED better rebounding too, ESPECIALLY with Bradley out, and Al was out last night.
He is making fewer dumb mistakes, although he still get a little out of control going to the hoop and gets himself in bad situations, he is MUCH better moving without the ball, getting the pass at the rim and then taking his man. He is blowing a lot of bunnies, but I think that is just rookie-itis. The game is too quick for his brain and so he's rushing. Next year, however, I think he'll be a little bit slower, because he'll know he has more time than he thinks he does this year, and his effectiveness will go way up.

I am liking this look with uber athletic rookie Jaylen Brown starting at the 2. We don't have a big frontline, so having a big wing in there seems to help our defense and rebounding. Glad Brad let the rook get some key minutes in 4th, 2 games in a row we get off to great starts on the 1st, Crowder was on fire early. The game shouldn't have gotten so close if some pussy 7 footer Zeller isn't afraid of contact and misses 3 bunnies. Smart and Brown hit some timely shots late in game and Smart doing a great job, not over volume shooting, his defense was stellar and won't show up on the boxscore, very few 6'4" defenders like him that can cover multiple positions. Kelly had a good game, beating Bucks down the floor for some dunks, was in a bad match up defensively in 4th on Monroe, as hes a ragdoll, as soon as Brad switched Amir on to Monroe in OT Bucks offense got stalled.
IT is really unbelievable, could he get most improved player of the year? He might be as good or better than Kyrie and very close to vintage Iverson.

yeah bob, love his defense too, he was covering everyone from the Freak to Delavedova last night. My son and I always look forward to him entering the game, and we were shouting like crazy on that finger roll over the Freak and that 3 later in 4th which was crucial. Despite rookie mistakes he shows so much of the IT factor and he has it, as soon as he cleans up his game a bit he is a 5 tool player that is gonna be a force and make huge highlight type plays and impact.

I think Brown may be a better fit off the bench at the 2 than Smart. I think he will get minutes at both 2 and 3. Smart is doing solid work at PG and on D.
When Celts go small they can play AB, JB and JC together with IT at the point and AH at the 5.

I love Rozier, but he looks like a guy that could benefit from more court time and may not get it in Boston. May have more value as a trade chip.Might have to choose between him and Smart.

Well whaddya know, the harp seals have teeth after all.
Orlando beat Toronto, in Toronto. The Celtics are now 1/2 game ahead of the Raptors and are in 2nd place in the eastern conference.
If we can maintain that Brad will coach the All-Star game. What a great unofficial opportunity to recruit high quality players, like IT did last year.
