The Celtics’ unflinching Game 5 win over Washington in one play
Jaylen Brown made a nice leaping save of a loose ball, keeping the play alive and throwing it to a streaking Avery Bradley in one motion. –Jim Davis/Boston Globe

Jaylen Brown didn’t score any points for the Celtics in their 123-101 win over the Washington Wizards Wednesday night. He took only three shots.
Brown was far from the star of the game (see Avery Bradley and Al Horford), but the Celtics were plus-17 with the rookie on the court. And plays like this one in the first quarter, when Brown saved a loose ball on the sideline and found a streaking Bradley for a layup, embodied the effort of a Celtics team that controlled Game 5 from start to finish.

Rozier knocks the ball away, Brown makes a leaping save and finds AB for the flush!

MY NOTE: Brown's value will not be found in last night's boxscore, but he did a lot of good stuff. He is, apparently, Brad's designated "Bogie-killer". He did have a really, really embarrassing rookie moment when he got an 8 second violation because he didn't walk the ball over half court fast enough, but that was with <10 seconds left and the game over. Just court unawareness. Having said all this we need to see the next step up in Jaylen's skills next year, we need him to become a scorer. It's great having a defensive wrecking ball like Marcus Smart but we cannot afford to have two non-scorers on the floor at the same time. Work on his dribbling so he can take defenders off the dribble and his catch-and-shoot from different places on the floor and not just from the corner 3. He has the talent, he has good shooting mechanics, he certainly can do it (as opposed to Marcus Smart, who I think will never be a good shooter because of his mechanics), he just needs to work on those things over the summer, let the game slow down a bit for him, and then show us next year.

Agree completely , bob. Brown took away the open looks Bogdanovich was getting in D.C. I can see him becoming a scorer when he becomes more comfortable with the ball in his hands and gets over the rookie habit of rushing his shot.

Jaylen's impact in this series will be more on the defensive side of the ball. His offense will catch up one of these days. Both him and Rozier have exceptional quickness
