Not sure if it's worth a thread, but it's worth repeating somewhere.

Re: Celtics are the Shortest Team in the NBA
Boston Celtics
Horford 6'10" - 6'11"
Olynyk 7'0"
Amir 6'9"
Jonas 6'10"
Zeller 7'0"
Cleveland Cavaliers
Thompson 6'9"
Love 6'10"
LeBron 6'8"
Golden State
Zaza 6'11"
Green 6'8"
Durant 6'9"
McGee 7'0"
San Antonio
Gasol 7'0"
Aldridge 6'11"
Lee 6'10"
Houston
Capela 6'10"
Anderson 6'10"
We have more 7'ers, more height, than the other top teams in the league. The stars on those teams are NOT the bigs, except for Love. They are the swings and guards. This is a small-man oriented league now. The ITs, Hardens and Curry's rule the day. Do we need length and beef? Sure we do, but we're not the shortest team in the league. Other teams have length. DeAndre Jordan is 6'11" but he is long. Same with Durant. McGee. Length and height are not the same thing.

Our starting backcourt is the shortest and the worst defensive starting back court in the NBA. I said we have the shortest team, not the shortest frontcourt. Comparing IT's size to Harden's is like comparing Shaq's to Jae Crowder's.

Rmbone,
The title of your thread is "CELTICS ARE THE SHORTEST TEAM IN THE NBA", not "The Shortest Back Court".

These guys are not part of our height problem:
Horford 6'10" - 6'11"
Olynyk 7'0"
Amir 6'9"
Jonas 6'10"
Zeller 7'0"

Rmbone,
OK, a couple of things. One, you are now specifying which part of the Celtic team is the height problem. You didn't in your title or your post. Two, we didn't have a height problem in the Chicago series with 6'7" Jimmy Butler vs Avery Bradley or with 6'7" Klay Thompson when we played GSW.
The problem I see us having is that IT cannot/does not defend well against speedy point guards like Wall or Lowry or Irving, but Bradley does. So, if Bradley has to be on the floor to slow them down when IT does get on the floor and, when he is on the floor, who does he guard if Bradley's got the speed demon and if Bradley is sitting (injury, fouls, rest) then who guards the speed demon? Rozier? Still short. Why? Because it's hard for a player like Jaylen Brown, at 6'7", to guard a John Wall or Kyle Lowry. Possible? Sure, Lue is putting Shumpert on IT and Brooks put Oubre on IT before him, but IT still did well. The speedy guards in the NBA today are really, really speedy. Would you want to put Brown on Irving? I might like to see Brad give it a try. At this point what have we got to lose?
If the answer to that is "He can't guard anybody and that's why we need to replace IT with a bigger scoring machine who is better than IT on defense", great. Give me a name of someone who is available that is a fair trade for an All-League Second Teamer.

I think my hope that we could still win with IT if we surround him with better talent was wishful thinking. He's not fast enough to guard the quick PGs, and he's almost a foot shorter than the SGs who can post him up or shoot jumpers over him. How do you realistically win a 7 game series against the very best teams in the NBA with that kind of gaping hole in the defense? Especially in a guard-centric league with lots of talented scoring guards?
Our talk of needing more scoring and rebounding ignores the huge elephant in the room that is IT's defense. He was the very worst defender in the regular season, and that's before the playoffs even started and the game plans get a lot smarter, and the competition gets a lot better.
We were pretty mediocre against teams with winning records all season long.
Adding a guy like Hayward might not be an upgrade over Crowder (in my opinion), but they can still play on the court together, without either being nearly as bad a defender as IT is against ANY position.
And IT's struggles defensively against quick guards are just going to get even worse as he gets older.
IT's a feel-good story, but against elite competition we automatically lose any game where he's not shooting lights out, and even then it's a crapshoot.
