Danny Ainge Suggests Celtics' Asset Depth Has Caused Teams To Ask For Too Much
JUN 23, 2017 10:46 AM
Danny Ainge was asked whether he feels the Boston Celtics are being asked for more in trade discussions than they are of other teams due to the depth of assets the team holds in terms of future picks and affordable role players.
"I think there's some truth in that," said Ainge. "I think you're spot on a little bit. I know when I try to do deals with teams, I'm lookin at: 'I'm going to call that team because they have something I'm really excited about.'
"Yeah, people around the league know the things we have and I think they are asking for some of our prime real estate."
Ainge was asked whether their strong position has actually been an impediment.
"I think over the last few trading periods I think it's been a little bit of a hurdle. Bottom line is we have to do the deals we really believe in. I think our team is on board with the ones we've turned down and the ones we've pursued longer and think more about it. We'll just continue to find the right deals."
Boston reportedly declined to offer either the No. 3 pick or Brooklyn's 2018 pick to the Chicago Bulls for Jimmy Butler.

We see that in all these rumors. Knicks asking for Crowder and 3 Nets picks for KP. Celts replying, Crowder, 1 Nets pick and a mid lottery pick for KP

When other teams start to highly value, and ask for, the assets you have, that's a very good sign.
And a sign you should be selective in your deals, while retaining a core from what you have.
The slow and steady approach is paying off. We'll continue to grow. Next, we get bigger in the front-court.
This is going to get to be even more fun. Make sure you have your NBA season pass for next season.

I agree. It's my Christmas present to myself every year.
The only thing I don't like is that on DISH, I have to deal 80% of the time with the other announcers. I think I heard Mike and Tommy (Scal) three times last year. I miss them, and Dunkins.........we don't have very many out here, and I've never seen one.

red,
I know what you mean. I can't go by a Dunkin' without pulling in for an iced coffee.
NBA Ticket is the same on DirecTV, you get who you get.

I get the streaming version of League Pass since I do not have cable nor dish. It costs much less. I use a Firebox, my laptop or my kindle to watch the games. I almost always get the choice of broadcasts, unlike the year that I went through Time Warner.

I believe Dish has the sport package that includes CSNNE. At least they used to. DIRECTV has the same package so i get all of the Celtics home games and road games that are not on National TV. Might inquire about that pack. All Mike and Tommy all the time!!red16russ11 wrote:NYCelt wrote:When other teams start to highly value, and ask for, the assets you have, that's a very good sign.

Re: Danny Ainge Suggests Celtics' Asset Depth Has Caused Teams To Ask For Too Much
Hi,
Re: watching regular season games.
For the last 2 years I bought NBA league pass for Celtics. It cost $120. I can stream on any device, e.g. PC, iPhone, etc. This pass gives me opportunity to select Boston broadcast. Unfortunately some games are blacked out when they're local (Cleveland) or on national TV. Sometimes I get lucky = I listen to Hubie Brown (ESPN and NBATV). Unfortunately, 3 or 4 games they play against Cavs which I can watch on TV. I mute it - can't stand those 2 morons - and become my own announcer and color-man.

I have that same package $120. I live in Charlotte, so all the Hornet games vs. the Celtics are under blackout rules. I go to the games in town, so the blackout does not affect me. I just cannot see the Hornets games in Boston.
For some reason, the Washington Wizards games vs. the Celtics are also blacked out. I need to find out why before next season.
I have the $20/month Sling TV package now to watch games on ESPN and TNT. That doesn't help me when the games are on NBA TV.

agree 100%. all these amateur bloggers, who treat basketball like a fantasy game are fos. I have not been a huge Danny Ainge fan; e.g., I felt the timing, if nothing else, of the Perkins trade was godawful. All these amateur blogger articles about how he should have obtained Butler, George, or Porzingas irritate the hell out of me, though. We already have 2, possibly 3 if he continues to develop, Jimmy Butlers.I must have missed him carrying the Bulls on his back after Rondo went down. George for a year until he runs off to lalaland? No thank you. Porzingas was never really available, unless you were willing to totally gut your team and start over again. Ainge`s job is not to perform miracles, but to build a championship team. Would any of those 3 guys have put Boston in the same ballpark as the Ws? Hell no. I`m not sure I would have traded 19 yoa Tatum for 27 yoa Butler straight up at this stage in the team`s development. People ask when DA is going to cash in his chips. I`m guessing that the answer , like any good gambler, is when he thinks the time is right. He must realize that the Ray Allen , KG, PP miracle is probably once in a lifetime. I think it is time for the rest of us to realize it too.

I think it's just a matter of time.
Paul George will end up with the Celts sooner or later.
No other team has more assets than the Boston Celtics right now.

It would be sad if Tatum's stay in Boston is short-lived as Tatum could be included in a package for Paul George.
If the Celts can get George in an extend and trade, it is very likely that Tatum's included in that trade deal.

I think it would be a stupid trade, especially if it was Tatum. I`m probably wrong, but I don`t think Ainge will do it. If he does it without George agreeing to an extension, I`m throwing a silent tantrum.

There's a scenario where the Celts can get Paul George in an extend and trade.
But that will require the Celts to use cap space on George's extension.

Right now Jaylen Brown still has the edge over Tatum because we've seen him play in the NBA already.
I really don't want to give up either one.
But I think Ainge will have to choose between the two if he really wants to get Paul George.

interesting--but George would have to agree to the extension , no?

If George agrees to an extension with the Celts, that means he's not going to the Lakers anymore.
The Pacers can now get more for George if they trade with the Celts, compared to trading him to other teams.
Also, I will not be too worried about the Lakers because the Lakers don't have what the Celts have in terms of assets.
