California Golden Bears alum Jabari Bird worked hard for an NBA contract and to get picked in the NBA Draft. Bird was selected 56th overall in the second round. He played well in Summer League for the Boston Celtics, and now he’s earned a spot on the roster.

Bird had some outstanding Summer league performances, averaging 7.8 points per game and shooting 43.8% from three.
Go Jabari!

MY NOTE: Congrats to the newest Celtic! So, we are now done with 2-way contracts for the year, Kadeem Allen having already signed the other one of two 2-way contracts a team is allowed. The total roster now stands at 18, so one is gone (maybe two. Who is to say they don't decide to cut to 16 players and sign someone new?).
Bird had some very nice games in summer league but, well, it's summer league and summer league is where bubble players play against other bubble players to see who gets invited to climb up onto the pre-season camp bubble. Nevertheless, unless you are a 1st round lock to make the roster you have to be invited to camp first before you can lift your eyes at the possibility of making the team. And then you have to figure out how to get on the floor. I don't doubt that his former teammate at Cal, Jaylen Brown, who is already mentoring Jayson Tatum will take his old friend under his wing too.
And speaking of taking someone under their wing, every bird knows Bird is the Word! Go Jabari!

Re: Boston Celtics sign Jabari Bird to two-way deal
I think if the Celts cut someone it's going to be Shane Larkin.
Celts have 16 guaranteed contracts.
Teams are only allowed 15.
One will have to be let go before the season starts.

Fierce,
So, despite our limited number of ball-handling guards, especially ones that can go full-court in a hurry (I do not consider Terry Rozier a ball-handler and Smart is adept at passing up court, an EXCELLENT skill to have since passes move faster than dribbles, but he isn't a full-court ball-handler), you're predicting a full court ball-handler will be cut and not one of our wings, of which we have a ton (Nader, Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Crowder-trade)?

Rozier is a PG.
He can be a starter on another team.
Celts only need 3 PGs.
I think Thomas, Smart, and Rozier will be enough.
If Celts need another PG if an injury happens then they can use Kadeem Allen.

Re: Boston Celtics sign Jabari Bird to two-way deal
I believe that Larkin will be an insurance policy for Thomas' hip issue, and that he may survive the entire season if only for this purpose. One of the many similarly talented forwards could be more likely to be cut to get to the 15 man roster.

Hi,
Unless there's a trade before the start of the season, I think Nader will be left out.
