Hypocrisy?
These are tweets/instagrams sent by Caron Butler, first, and then later by Ray Allen in response to the Kyrie Irving/IT etal trade.
Are fans hypocrites when they lambaste a player's loyalty (and continue, like Ray Allen who leaves to go to a rival, but don't apply the same standard to GMs and owners when they treat players like so much meat even after playing through emotional and physical pain? We expected players to "take one for the team" but don't expect the team to reciprocate? Is this a double standard? Is it just self-centered hypocrisy? What do you think?

Re: Hypocrisy?
I somewhat agree with Ray. However I still think there is a difference in choosing to leave your TEAMMATES and going to your rival and the team MANAGEMENT trading you to a rival. Both appear to be betrayal but the difference is that players form a bond and trusting relationship. They go to war together. Management does not. It becomes more personal amongst players. Management looks at the team as a whole and makes decisions based on what they feel is best for the organization. Either way it sucks, especially for the fans who are never going to be totally objective when it comes to THEIR team. Hypocrisy? Yup!

Re: Hypocrisy?
It works both ways - Teams release and trade - players opt out through free agency. Fair to both sides - and of course the fans get to voice an opinion based on their own personal biases.

Re: Hypocrisy?
Well of course Ray Allen feels the way he does.
Players have a right to leave a team in free agency or demand a trade to another team.
Owners have a right to cut a player or trade the player.
Because we are talking about sports somehow we expect persons to do what is in the best interest of the collective and not in the best interest of themselves.
The NBA is a business and Danny Ainge plays this game with the best of them. Fans perhaps should just stay focused on the team and not on the players so much. Accept that your favorite player may be traded or your favorite player may want to play elsewhere.

As Seinfeld pointed out, in the end, we are rooting for laundry.

Hi,
Interesting point is that even after 5 years RA still talks about it. In my book it means one thing - he still regrets that decision.

I seriously doubt he regrets his decision. He is remembered for hitting one of the biggest shots in NBA history and now has another ring to show for it.sinus007 wrote:Hi,

Re: Hypocrisy?
The players have a point, but as Beat noted, they're paid to take the heat. The fan working two jobs has real problems. I look favorably on the trade as long as Hayward is considerably better than Crowder. If not, nothing else makes sense to me. But if Hayward is a star, then paired with Irving, I think we're on our way. As for loyalty, it has devolved in recent years among all concerned. Can you imagine the Celtics trading Russell to St. Louis at the end of his career for future draft picks? Furor! But when it happened with Pierce and Garnett, many, including this fan, were cheering.
