That's a heartbreaker. Isaiah will surely be missed. I understand that Jae Crowder was going to be traded sometime this season, but he was a trooper.
I hope Kyrie was worth it.

Breaks my heart to lose IT, feel so bad for him, he really wanted to be here for the long haul. I guess Smart, Rozier, Brown, Tatum will be looking over their shoulders for the coming year. You never know.
All those idiots keep talking about Anthony Davis,

Yeah. Bittersweet. I hate the way Thomas has been treated especially by the Cavs. I hope he gets his money from somewhere other than Cleveland. GD Cavs!

Danny is developing a reputation that may impact the relationships that he has with players but I guess it is similar to Bill Belichick.
Sports has changed so much.
Best of luck to IT Crowder and Zizic

Re: Deal Done finally
Teams are measured by wins and championships. It is difficult to see IT sent packing to another team after he bled green so completely, and played so well and clutch, however he will still make millions of dollars if he heals up and plays basketball like he did pre injury. He will still be idolized by many. Meanwhile, the Celtics may have taken one more step toward banner 18. This will quickly be forgotten if the Celtics win a championship as a result of these trades by Ainge.

Re: Deal Done finally
Sports has developed into a 2 sided coin. Players move about freely and think very little of staying with a team that nurtured them in their formative years, they leave for the money and easy path to a championship by overloading artificially a team with talent. It does not take much brains by a GM to win a championship now, it just evolves around the latest tending city and hype to draw a player to a team.
As for the other side of the coin, teams continue to do what they have been doing for ever, they do what is best to protect the franchise and not beholden to any one player, unless that player was an icon/one of a kind.
So everyone on both sides know how the business is now conducted, so there should be no surprises or hard feelings when things happen.

Re: Deal Done finally
As some of us predicted, one future second round pick was all they got. Nice job by Danny. Sorry to see IT go, but very very excited to add Kyrie. This is a huge trade for the Celtics, and I'm very happy to see this finally put to rest. Hopefully Kyrie hates the Cavs enough to play really well against them.

Re: Deal Done finally
Kyrie and company will put an end to Cleveland in the EC. We are one giant step closer to #18.
Re: Deal Done finally
Always tough when you loose a star player. Gonna miss IT, loved both his and Crowders attitude on the court.
BUT you have to give up something to get something. Think both had reached their max with us and I do wish them well.
When KI wanted out Ainge began his stalking like a buzzard circling a dead carcass waiting to get a meal.
We got the best player (for now) in the deal. (who knows what that pick will bring Cleveland)
So it looks like we should be able too put up more points on offense, a lot more once things begin to mesh, likewise might give up a few more on defense. But rather you win 120-110 or 100-90 it's a win.
Big step towards banner #18 as W mentioned above.
Some may bitch about the trade that we gave up too much. Some of those same bitched because we hadn't done anything like the fireworks DA mentioned in the past.
Well we got some July 4th a little late this year.
And I want to add it here.
Next week Marcus and I will be heading to Harvard where he has accepted a position in their Basketball program. He will be meeting with the coach then and looking over things. He'll be in complete charge of their video department. He plans on hitting up his contact with the C's too and who knows where this all will lead too. I can see a few more trips to Boston now !! When I know a bit more I'll share it.

Re: Deal Done finally
As a stand-alone deal, I like the trade, because I think IT has peaked, and KI is better and still on the upswing. A lot depends on the Hayward deal however. I recall Crowder shutting him down one game after Hayward was cheered in Boston. Hopefully, that was an anomaly and we'll be better now at two positions. Glad we didn't give up Tatum. Brown or Smart. This will be an exciting team to watch, starting with game 1. Hawk

I hope all deals get Stevens approved, honestly I trust his eye for talent and fit more than what Ainge provides. This will be a very interesting this season and for the foreseeable future, well come front office.

I don't know much about this quite yet. But I do know a little. Marcus already has a couple contacts within the C's organization. I also believe where he will be living.....one of their neighbors..... is Brad Stevens!!RosalieTCeltics wrote:That is awesome news Beat. Marcus will succeed at whatever he takes on. Not saying when or even if. But I wouldn't be shocked if he gets a job with the C's sometime in the next few years. Again I'll know a whole lot more after next Wednesday.

Beat,
That is one great opportunity for Marcus! Ivy League and among the most respected basketball programs around. Please congratulate Marcus for me. He's come a long way from that tall young kid that barely fit into the back of my car!

Now that the deal is over, Boston can move forward with their alternative route to winning another NBA championship.
I do not think that the Irving deal was expected or planned but Ainge saw an opportunity to add high end talent and had enough assets to make it work. The best thing about this is that Boston did not empty the storage bin filled with future first round draft picks. The challenge of putting together a team where the roster turnover is 73% (11 new faces) is like starting a new franchise. Smart, Rozier, Brown and Horford remain from the team that went to the final 4 last season. The makeover has been dramatic, unprecedented and historical by any measure.
This is risky business at work here but without risk there can be no reward. The stew never tastes quite the same when you change out most of the ingredients. But maybe this stew will come out better. At least that is the hope of Celtics fans that need to add another championship T-shirt to their collection.
I am sure that Celtics fan cannot wait for the season to start. We should not expect things to flow smoothly immediately. If they did it would be even more amazing but caution dictates that fans prepare themselves for a period of time where this team is in the bonding process. New roles for the players will be established and Brad will spend an extraordinary amount of time reviewing film and studying data to determine how the mix works best. This will not be easy particularly since the preseason has been shortened to 4 games vs 7. Practice time will be extremely important but limited once the season starts. This team will learn to play together on the fly and I am sure that Brad is already sketching out his rotations.

Re: Deal Done finally
Bu I wonder if he would have held on to Bradley for one more year if he had any inclination that this was going to happen? So much change, new players, who will take over leadership in the locker room? Al Horford? Everyone thinks he is a quiet, reserved guy. From what I saw of him in the playoffs, he has it in him to lead not only by example but with words. Marcus is still a kid, has more to learn about leadership and what it means.
No matter what, it is here, they are here, and they have to learn to play together. I think it could be an exciting time to watch them. Thank God we have Brad Stevens, because he is the one person who can manage this.
We still need a big, no matter whatl

I thought about the Bradley thing as well but I am getting the feeling that neither him nor IT where going to be part of the Celtics future.
If they kept Bradley the money issue would have still been an issue at the end of this year given the $77 million already slated for Hayward, Horford and now Irving (rounded up to the nearest million) Also with Smart due for a raise it makes keeping AB all the more impossible.
I think it will be a very intriguing team to watch. There will be no shortage of topics to discuss.
I'm just glad the deal has been completed and I really am looking forward to seeing how Irving and Hayward fit on this team.
