Bogut Gets Final Physical

Time for a poll

He has played on average 70% of the time.

He has been a pretty consistent rebounder throughout his career.  He can score in the paint but not beyond and he is a hideous free throw shooter.  He has some rim protection skills blocking shots.

The one skill that stands out to me is rebounding.

Although I can see where he may be of use i maintain a position of wait and see what the team needs.

I think we need a reliable scorer  off the bench.

Reports today say that Bogut's tibia is fully healed and he is 100% cleared to play.

Expect a decision from him within the week, if not by the end of the weekend. We're getting too close to camp for him to dawdle.

The other 3 teams are....San Antonio,Milwaukee and Utah.

I'd like a guy who's a great rebounder, can protect the rim, score inside, shoot 3s, has a 80+ FT%, can pass, and run the floor like a gazelle. But barring that I'll take Bogut.

Will the presence of Bogut on the roster make the Celts a serious threat for a ring this coming season ?
If not - why waste a roster space on an over the hill veteran ?
But then - Why worry period about the value of any free agent that you can expect to get at this late date in the free agent market - unless his youth allows for at least a glimmer of hope for potential development ?

I think he was still available on the free agent market because of the physical. He wasn't really "available" before. Fact remains that other than Baynes we have a very small roster. And I don't think we have cap left for more than a vet min or a D (G, whatever) league wannabe. Who knows. Maybe we can trade him for a development project later. Cleveland has this kid Zizic that might be available in a couple months.

What is our biggest need at this point, other than developing continuity? I'd say rebounding, then rim protection. Who other than Bogut can we get to address these needs and on the cheap?

Actually I was joking. We have plenty of potential development right now.

We got 11 new players coming in.

No one really knows what the most important need is.

Yes rebounding is a weakness given the past few years results and no player is intimidated about getting their shot thrown back.  At the same time we need to see how the rotation functions and then focus on improving any deficiencies that become evident.

Before Boston commits to a player like Bogut I would like to get a better feel for team needs.

I am not signing Bogut in the blind.   I think it would be ill advised.

I would have to agree with dboss on this one.

A better feel for team needs is more practical.

Celts wanted rebounding and toughness last July.
They signed Baynes.
Whether Baynes is the solution or not, spending all the room exception money on Baynes is an indication that Ainge and the Celts think Baynes can be backup Center the Celts are looking for.

Wise input from you Dboss.

I've always had a rather lukewarm perception of Bogut. His durability is full of question marks, a factor that shouldn't be ignored.

The game is changing now, and having a traditional center isn't quite as important as it used to be. I think we'd be better served in trying to find an athletic, two-way PF that can shoot, pass, rebound, and run the floor.

But where?
