Post Game Thread - vs Bucks, Game 5 Playoffs
"Bucks in 6" my ass.
We got a break on that Horford shot that he took after the 24 second clock expired but, other than that, I don't think Bucks fans have much to complain about with the refs, but I'm sure they will anyway.
He's on the floor for 40 seconds and Smart is already earning a Tommy Point. He has to be the world's worst fantasy league player because his boxscore never reflects his impact on the game. I can live with him shooting 2-7 because he was also 5-5 from the line and just willed us forward. Both of his floor burn plays were phenomenal but that last one where he has 3 Bucks on him (where was the whistle for that one, Bucks fans?) and he finds Al for the 2 instead of calling a TO.

Credited for 3 blocks but only 1 steal but I saw more than 1. He just makes basketball plays. Anybody knows anything about the game and can look past the stats can see that. Even the hometown scorer doesn't show him any love, but I am. Sign him, Danny!
What a boost we got from Semi!! His first NBA start, and it was against The Freak. Did a great job of keeping him out of the paint, which is all you can ask for. I'll take Giannis forced into jump shots all day all night. A couple of bullshit rookie calls on Semi too. 3rd year player Semi gets the charge call, rookie Semi gets called for the blocking foul. Only 10 fgas for Giannis. That is HUGE!! Semi also got 7 boards, some of which were solid traffic boards. By doing an effective job of defending Giannis Semi let Horford move to center and go against Tyler Zeller. Semi neutralized their best player (I consider 16 points on 5-10 to be "neutralized" for a player like Giannis) and, because of that, we got a mismatch we want with Horford. Horford had 22 points on 7-15 and 14 boards and didn't get worn out defending a player who is quicker than him.
30 seconds into this video you see Semi's great defense on Giannis that should have been a charge but the refs f-d up.
A whole lot of arm swinging and all but Thon Maker played 21 minutes and only scored 2 points and had zero blocks. He did hit Rozier in the face 2x. Why he wasn't called for a flagrant 1, since hitting a player in the head with a big arm swing is almost always called that, I don't know. Another reason for Bucks fans not to complain about the calls. Maker should have been gone with 2 flagrants.
The Bucks were the #1 fg% team in the playoffs heading into last night's game, shooting 54.2%. Last night they shot 36.8%. Think the return of Marcus Smart and the decision by Brad to start Semi on Giannis had anything to do with this?
Monroe with a Coaches -DNP. Baynes with only 10 minutes. Brad decided that, without Henson, small ball is the way to go against them. Match up, don't try to exploit their weakness by going big and pounding them inside. Interesting coaching perspective. He recognizes the length and mobility of Giannis and Maker negates bulk and beef. Even so, we outrebounded them 50-37.
This game was close because we had 17 TOs to their 11 and because they took 18 more fgas than we did. That's a problem, giving up that many more fgas. We only took 69, which is extremely anemic. We took 12 more ftas and could have, in my opinion, taken a lot more if the refs had blown their whistles when they should have.
In the ongoing DREW Bledsoe vs Scary Terry battle it is becoming increasingly obvious that it is inside Bledsoe's head. He committed a flagrant because he's trying to assert himself but lacks the game to take it to Terry in the flow of the game, so he pops him and got called for it. Bledsoe 5-15 for 16 points and 3 assists. Rozier with 16 on 4-10 and 5 assists. And Bledsoe was a highly touted player in LA and Phoenix. Hasn't been that in Milwaukee.

Wildly entertaining game if you like defense!! Loved Semi and Smart with his unique hustling pit bull style of play making this our best defensive effort of playoffs. Stevens going for more speed and tenacity on defense, limiting Baynes and no play for Monroe. Jayson showing he needs to put on some muscle, missing a few drives badly and being outpositioned too many times in paint. Would have liked to seen Jaylen do more, especially at crunch time, he didn’t force it, don’t know if that’s good or bad, but since we won it worked out.
Morris with a surprising key lay up finish in 4th after blowing a bunch of finishes earlier because he has the speed of a snail....our defense came thru over and over and we went smaller. Semi huge in limiting Giannis. On to Milwaukee just got to hit a few more shots then them.

Cow,
Good point about Jayson. He has been outmuscled under the basket the last two games, for the game winner vs Giannis in Game 4 and last night vs Parker. Jaylen needs to work on parts of his game this summer (ballhandling and shooting off the dribble) while Jayson is ok with that but he needs to go on a see-food diet and live in the weight room.

Re: Post Game Thread - vs Bucks, Game 5 Playoffs
Two quick observations.
Marcus Smart just punched his ticket and will resign with the Celtics. They are a different team with him on the court, period.
Thon Maker needs a punch in the neck. He slapped Rozier TWICE and in the clip above, is slapping Smart in the face AGAIN. In the old NBA, Greg Kite or ML Carr would have already laid this MF out.
Celtics will wrap it up on Thursday.

Agreed not sure how he did it, but Giannis made some key adjustments in defending Jaylen, the shots Jaylen scored on him in iso weren’t there....or should Jaylen have attacked more and figured it out? Great match up and they are giving Jaylen respect putting one of their best defenders on him. We’ll see if Brad and Jaylen can figure out how to get off better next game....

Hi,
Great win. Smart was a real boost, didn't look like he missed 6 weeks.
We got lucky with that missed shot clock expired. OTOH, how many times TR has to be hit on his face before earning a flagrant foul, obviously more than 3.
Speaking about the refs. They found an interesting solution to punish an instigator (in this case it was Bledsoe): flagrant 1 vs just a technical.
I hope both Js will heat up for tomorrow's game because yesterday they were rather cold in the shooting department.

Cow,
RE: Giannis defending JB. I think they need to make more opportunities for AH to post him. AH manages to score or get a foul but in either case he frustrates Giannis which is what doctor prescribed.
TR's achieved a lot on this front with Bledsoe.

I said in the Game On thread last night that Thon Maker is a dirty player. I hope the league gives the refs for our next game a heads up, keep an eye on his face rakes.

I am usually not a proponent for "an eye for an eye" violence, but Maker needs to be introduced to All of Australia. Nothing major, just a good hard kleen foul. LOL

I was hoping they were gonna feed Baynes inside he was looking hungry and could use a light a snack. I dont know if Maker is so much dirty as very emotional and sort of playing out of control. To me dirty is more intentional although the results can be the same.

Re: Post Game Thread - vs Bucks, Game 5 Playoffs
This game 5 win reestablishes Boston as the best defensive team in the playoffs.
It was ugly. Real ugly but it was also pretty. Getting Smart back changes the final outcome in favor of Boston. The insertion of Semi into the starting lineup provided more favorable matchups on defense. Semi is more agile and quicker than Baynes.
Baynes will start again but probably not until the Sixers series. I believe Boston has an excellent chance to close them out in game 6. That win will also be triggered by the defensive DNA of this team and in particular, Marcus Smart.

You know if that was Morris, it’s at least a tech or a flagrant....he’s right the refs are out for him. He looks like a tough guy with the tattoos and muscles, but his game is more finesse, mostly because he’s so slow and unathletic. Just hope he can get in one of his hot zones, his shot has been mostly off.

As to Ojeleye, after watching him defend Giannis last night, and with the help of Bob`s highlights, I now see why the kid has been getting minutes despite his lack of offense,( which seems to be coming around a little). The first " blocking " call was definitely a charge, the second probably a block IMO. Giannis could have been called for travelling at least twice and as many as 5 x. Semi had him hanging in the air with no place to go numerous times. Giannis probably would have been better throwing his shoulder into Semi , throwing it at the basket and hoping for the superstar call on several occasions.

JR,
We took 12 more ftas. We got 2 ftas for the Bledsoe flagrant and they got 1 for the Rozier technical, so really only 11 more from play. Assuming 5 fgas (2 ftas each) + 1 fgm (and a +1), that is 5 fgas added to our 69. 74. That is still anemic. 17 turnovers will cut into your possessions and fgas and we had 7 more than them.
