Smart analysis?? Empty Smart analysis??

Post by Ktronic1 Wed May 16, 2018 7:18 am

Listening to NBA radio last night after the game and one of the hosts said something that up to this point never crossed my mind but I totally agree with.
He stated that Marcus Smart is Boston’s Draymond Green!
I know some would say that Green is a better player but as far as his impact on our team and how much Smart is such an integral part to Winning, I’d say he was spot on.
What say you??

sounds about right to me.

Never thought to compare the two players either, but it does have some merit I think.

green makes $16M this year, but I am sure Smarts agent already knows that.

Without Smart, IMO, we wouldn't be 2-0 versus Cleveland, probably not even still playing this week. If he develops a consistent jumper, he'll be out of this world, but even without it, he's the heart every great teams needs. (Remember how the C's lost heart when he hurt his hand?) Maybe Gordon, Al and Kyrie will take a little less to keep Smart because he does so much for the them on the court. When he shoots, I hold my breath, unless he's tightly guarded, the clock is ticking down and the game's on the line, because the harder the play, the more likely he is to make it. Hawk

I dont think Smart will ever develop a consistent jumper, but I also see him almost recognizing that himself. Since he came back from his thumb injury, he has been a much better offensive player - mostly because he is aware of his limitations.

He takes it to the hoop more than before. He forces less shots than before. He is becoming a much better pick and roll player. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, he is complaining to the officials less than before.

A very very important part of this team and their identity, unless some team throws stupid money at him - DA needs to resign him

ktronic,

I'd agree. They don't have exactly the same game, but I think they fill similar rolls.

The best way I can put it is both are dump trucks surrounded by Ferraris. Gritty, tough defenders. A little nasty disposition, willing to do the dirty work. I think both are much more important to their respective team's culture, determination and success than many fans realize.

I liked how Smart stood up immediately to dumb-ass JR Smith after the flagrant foul on Horford. He got right in his face and let him know that shit ain't allowed. The entire bench and the fans appreciate that attitude!

My GSW fan friends all agree with me, and I have repeatedly said he is our Draymond Green.

Or, Kevin Garnett?

bob,

Our Friday morning Celtics breakfast group has tried to compare what Garnett and Smart brought/bring to their Cs teams many times. Your mentioning the comparison is the first one i have seen on this forum.

Both guys have the "it" that every good team has to have from its emotional leader. Garnett was great to watch when he led his Cs teams, and so is Marcus Smart.

Garnett was a much better player and earned superstar status, but I believe that Smart leads every bit as well as Garnett.

Glad he is on our team and hope that Ainge signs him this summer for a long term contract.

I swear if you want action you should just watch Marcus Smart at all times even when he doesn't have the ball

The most subtle of winning plays: Marcus Smart was really effective locking and trailing Kyle Korver, using spin moves like these to stay under screens at the right moments when Korver is off ball and get in position to defend PnR.

Yes indeed! And Silas didn’t have the extra baggage that Draymond carries. (Friggin nuts)

#Celtics Marcus Smart: You want guys playing with passion, leaving everything they have out on the court. I'll take that any day over some pretty boy, Cinderella, primadonna. You want guys who are going to go to work for me just like I'm going to go to work for them.

I have to repeat myself again...I forget.

Without Smart we may have been bounced in round one.

I believed that once he came back the Celtics would win.  Yes he impacts winning as does Green.  Every championship tean needs a player like Marcus.
