Ainge not exactly blown away by this draft
NBC Sports Boston Report,NBC Sports Boston 19 hours ago
If the Celtics are indeed interested in trading up for Texas big man Mo Bamba, Danny Ainge isn't about to say, of course. In fact, he downplayed the quality of this year's draft in a WEEI interview Friday.
"It's a good draft. It's not a special, special draft. But it's a very good draft," Ainge said on WEEI's "Dale and Keefe" show. "I think it's got some decent depth. I wouldn't say it's one of the better ones or one of the worst ones. It's a normal draft. But we're excited about who we can potentially add late in the draft."
The Sporting News reported the Celtics' possible interest in Bamba this week. He's likely to go in the third-to-sixth range, so Boston, with the 27th pick, would have to trade up to get him - with speculation centering on Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier being among the players who could be moved.
Those two can be considered "core guys" but when asked if he plans on returning the same team that lost in seven games to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, Ainge answered: "Probably not the entire team, but the main core guys, sure."
Ainge couldn't say a lot about the controversy surrounding Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo and burner Twitter accounts, he did wonder why a GM would need to tweet anonymously.
"I think my wife just signed up for Twitter. We'll have to check that," Ainge said. "But, I'm still trying to figure out the value of a burner account. … I still haven't figured out that value yet."

MY NOTE: If Danny is publicly panning the draft that increases the likelihood, and the trade rumors, that he'll try to move up. He is the Duke of Deception, the Master of Misdirection, the Clam of Clues.

Re: Ainge not exactly blown away by this draft
I agree that Ainge probably likes one of the upper level draft pick possibilities and is kind of fluffing off that the draft is not better than any other draft.
He has plenty of quality mid size players, actually too many guards and a shortage of center type guys to ignore that this draft features many quality big guys who will be all near the top of the draft in ability.
I would not be too surprised to see Rozier and a couple of Ainge's acquired draft picks heading out to get a shot at one of the better big men. Rozier is at the very top of his trade market value, trading Rozier would allow him to re-sign Smart and all of those draft picks down the road will not help at all for next year.
There are likely to be many fairly younger vets available later in the summer (Avery Bradley or someone similar) who will be able to fill Rozier's likely minutes in next year's rotation behind Irving, Hayward and Brown while Tatum will be able to fill as a guard at times as well. Guys like Nader, Larkin, Allen and Bird should also still be around. All know the system and are young enough to show improvement enough to make more pronounced contributions next season when depth is needed.

Danny knows there may be a young center to be had.
He already has everything else. Nice to see him talking down the draft.

Then suddenly it's a 3-team trade involving the Spurs, Griz, and Celts.
Major piece going to Spurs is the #4 pick.
Griz get Jaylen Brown.
Celts get Kawhi.
