Chris Paul staying put. Paul George too. Lakers prospects and Lebron's playing partners are dwindling.

Wow. His deal is four years $160 million. And he's already 33.
He missed 24 games last year. What he will be like at 36 or 37 (and he'll actually turn 38 during the playoffs of the last year of his deal if they make the playoffs that year) when he is getting paid $40 million per is the big question.

Very strange signing for this amount of money? This will hinder the Rockets for probably the last three years of the length of this contract if not for all four years.

Paul had to stay in Houston.
He's just breaking that new State Farm agent in.

This makes no sense and I like his game, couldn’t they have given him 110 or 120 mill for 4 years?
I don’t see him being that productive in year 3 and on....

$40 M a year for 4 years. Paul is one well paid young man. Smart with his money too, though he must have to share his State Farm ad revenue with his twin brother.
Re: Chris Paul staying with Rockets
My point was no one else is gonna give him that kind of money, I would have made him settle for 110-120, can’t believe these guys make that much.....doesn’t this cripple them to make more moves, they could use another wing now that they lost Aliza.

Re: Chris Paul staying with Rockets
cowens,
Why would you have given Chris Paul anything near 100 Million (never mind 160 M) for four years?
I doubt that any other team would have given him more than 20 M per year, and for very likely less than four years. Would you think that Ainge would have gone beyond the mentioned 20 M for four years for this guy even if he (Ainge) had no salary cap issues? Cs fans would have killed him if he way overpaid for an aging player like Paul.
Seems that Houston was clearly bidding against themselves for whatever reasons. I am not a betting man, but will bet that Houston will long regret this signing.

Re: Chris Paul staying with Rockets
Obviously they overpaid, obviously they wanted to keep him and its even more obvious that this is how bad they want to win a title.
Let’s not forget that CP3 is President of the Players union.
If he stays with Houston and takes less than max it would be a bad look and send out an even worse message to both players and owners(who would have definitely used it to their advantage). He couldn’t/wouldn’t do that.
Sure, no others team would’ve paid him that much but as I stated at the beginning, the Rockets did not want him going anywhere. Prudence dictates that they may have hurt themselves in the long run but as unwise as it looks to us and others, they want to win now and its their money. He doesn’t wear green so personally I couldn’t care less.

Ktronic,
Good thoughts, but still not worth the price they paid to Paul for four years.

Absolutely not. It’s going to hurt them long run. Looks like a GM move to keep his job...for awhile.

Re: Chris Paul staying with Rockets
Houston will live to regret this.
I have less issue with his per year salary than I do with the length.
CP3 looks to me like he is breaking down. At 33 that pattern may accelerate.
They will miss Ariza.
