NBA Rumors: Celtics, Marcus Smart Have Had ‘Good Dialogue’ On New Contract

With Aron Baynes re-signed and the Boston Celtics’ roster already stacked, the top priority now clearly is bringing back Marcus Smart. And according to RealGM’s Keith Smith, the current status of those negotiations is good. The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn also had some more details. Smart is a restricted free agent and was tendered an offer by the Celtics, meaning they have the opportunity to match anything he gets from another team. Though Smart never has put up stunning offensive numbers, the defense and energy he brings to the Celtics offense — coupled with the fact that he can play either position in the backcourt and guard most anywhere on the floor — gives him plenty of value. Both sides have expressed a desire to work a deal out, and it sounds like things may be headed in the right direction to get that accomplished.

Guess this was a bunch of baloney too!!! Time to stop listening to these wannabee reporters and wait for the press release from the Celtics and Ainge.

Today's Boston Herald has Smart angry and discouraged by the lack of communication from the Celtics. They made their offer, were waiting for teams to counter, and then they would deal. Seems he wants a three to four year deal. Not gonna happen Marcus.
This is not what he expected. I think he thought there would be teams on his door step on June 30/July 1 at midnight. I guess not, there are no offers to match

Wish it would just get settled, but my thought is it will be for the one year, unless Ainge has a change of heart.
