Who Will Have A Breakout Season For The Celtics?

cowens/oldschool wrote:I see Semi and Morris having trouble getting playing time, plus with Baynes and Williams, if he earns it, getting time at the 5, Al and Theis could be getting minutes at the 4 and I see both of them as better contributors at the 4 than Semi and Morris. The 3 we’ve got 3 all star talents there too, our strongest position IMHO.
You couldn't see why Morris was getting minutes last year, so this is no surprise. With the return of Hayward, though, you might get your wish.
Semi was getting minutes when they needed someone mobile and immovable. They could shoot over Semi but they weren't going to back him down. He could still get those minutes when they need someone like that and Baynes is sitting.
Morris and Rozier have expiring contracts. That makes them valuable as well as of limited value unless you are planning on paying them to stay. This is more true for Rozier than Morris. Rozier is young and on his way up and while Morris could get his starting spot back (somewhere else) he is perceived as a known quantity and not much more upside. Rozier will get a nice payday from someone next year. Morris not as much. So Morris being added to a deal is a lower benefit/lower loss if he leaves.

Morris will put on "the good team player" face for a while. By January/February he will make it known that he is not happy with a lesser role. He is making almost $3 million less than his brother, this has to be killing him. I would not be shocked, if things are going well with all the others on the team, to see Morris gone by February trade deadline. He was good last year at times, but the way he disappeared during the ECF has to be a factor in deciding whether or not to keep him

Rosalie, You are one brilliant GM to be. Astute analysis, especially that Morris can't be happy making $3M per year less than his twin, whom he outscores, and is stuck on a team where his role is decreasing in importance.

Little known facts about John:
...
I remember reading, back in the seventies, that Jarrin' John, despite his reputation for running on the court, was said by his wife to be real slow around the house, not moving much at all.

Some of you all are being a little hard on Morris , in my opinion. I generally wait until somebody does something wrong rather than anticipating that they will. You can dislike his game without making assumptions about him becoming a locker room distraction. Is there some prior incident where he disrupted a team or otherwise acted as a malcontent that I am unaware of? That's a serious question.
