Legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden, whose teams won seven
consecutive NCAA championships and had a record winning streak of 88
games, died Friday. He was 99. Known as the "Wizard of Westwood,"
Wooden coached for 27 years at UCLA before retiring after winning his
10th NCAA title in 1975. His Bruin teams had a record 620 wins and 147
losses. Wooden, known for his colorful statements, once said: "Talent is God
given; be humble. Fame is man given; be thankful. Conceit is self given;
be careful."--Robert J. Lopez

One great basketball coach. Just think of all the great players that came through his program and graduated. None of this one and gone stuff that we have today in college ball. The guys that stay the full four years are picking up systems on teams much faster. It is a shame what basketball has come down to.
