NBA draft lottery 2019: Kings troll 76ers after pick goes to Celtics
By Ali Thanawalla
May 14, 2019 6:43 PM
For the second time in three days, the balls didn't bounce the Philadelphia 76ers' way.
On Sunday, it was the basketball on Kawhi Leonard's series-ending shot. On Tuesday, the ping-pong balls gave the Kings' 2019 first-round pick to the Boston Celtics, not the 76ers.
The Kings social media team combined the two moments to troll the 76ers.

The 76ers didn't waste time clapping back, taking a shot at the Kings' playoff drought.

To refresh your memory, the Kings included their 2019 first-round pick in the Nik Stauskas trade in 2015. Then Philadelphia included rights to that pick in the Markelle Fultz-Jayson Tatum draft night trade two years ago.
The stipulations Tuesday night were this: If the ping-pong balls had pick anywhere between No. 2 and No. 14, Boston got the selection. If the ping-pong balls somehow defied the odds and landed at No. 1, Philly would get the pick.
When NBA Deputy Commission Mark Tatum opened the first envelope, he pulled out a card with the Celtics logo on it. The Sixers were out of luck.
That's when the Kings pounced.

The problem with New Orleans is that they are the smallest market in the league.
AD does not want to be there.
With so many large market teams having cap space, I don't think it's realistic that Kyrie would want to sign with New Orleans.

I wonder how far up the Celtics could move in the draft order if they gave up all 3 picks?

There were four instances after the season was over where tie breakers were needed to determine seeding in the draft and lottery.
We came in last on all four of them.
Someone doesn't like us.

Re: 2019 Draft Lottery Thread
#14 and #22 might get us in the 8-10 range IMO
all three picks could get us possibly into the top 5-6. but you need to have a team looking to add three draft picks..unlikely , IMO.
on another note, with Memphis having the #2 pick now, if they pick Morant there Conley could again be on the trade block.
a Conley for Hayward deal might make a lot of sense for both teams, in that case.

tardust and kdp,
I made a thread with a poll to address potential draft pick moves. Thanks for the idea.

Correct me if I am wrong, you capologists, but can't NOLA offer AD much more than anyone else?

If he gets traded, his new team will be able to offer him the most, the same as if he stays in New Orleans.
If he waits until he is a free agent and signs with another team, he will get less.

Re: 2019 Draft Lottery Thread
So AD does have an incentive to get traded now. Hmm. Griffin probably likes the idea of a Smart, Tatum, Holladay, and the big guy from Duke all on his team plus picks.

good point, while I think the Lakers getting the 4th pick puts them back in the catbird seat for Davis......Zion, Tatum, Holiday and Smart is a pretty good start to a playoff team by themselves.

For those who want a laugh, here's NY Knick superfan Stephen A(sshole) Smith talking about the Knicks dropping from having the best shot at Zion to picking 3rd.
Watching him have a nervous breakdown on TV definitely put a smile on my face. What a mental meltdown! Love it.
Thanks Steve.

The difference between what New Orleans can offer AD and what another team can offer is significant because AD is eligible to sign a super-max contract with New Orleans.
The super-max is not available if he gets traded.

TJ,
I couldn't find "super-max" anywhere in Larry Coon's FAQ, so it made the search for the truth a little harder. I did find this in the gray schedule in #24"
Designated Veteran Extension
7 or 8 years of service when extension signed; 1 or 2 years remaining on contract; with same team continuously (unless traded during first four years in the league); meets Designated Veteran Player 35% Max Criteria
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q24
So I guess that he does lose some money if he leaves New Orleans.
Thanks for the correction.
