Could a Celtics trade for Anthony Davis happen before NBA Draft?

There are enough moving parts in the Anthony Davis trade saga to make your head spin. But there's a chance things start falling into place within the next two weeks.
During Thursday's episode of NBC Sports Boston's "Celtics Talk" Podcast, Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders suggested the Pelicans would like to trade Davis before the 2019 NBA Draft on June 20 if executive president of basketball operations David Griffin can't convince him to stay in New Orleans.

"I've been told they want to get it done before the draft," Kyler said. "If Anthony Davis isn't in the boat, they're ready to move on. Life after AD, build around Jrue Holiday and Zion Williamson, start the next part."
The Pelicans own the No. 1 pick and are an essential lock to take Williamson. By dealing Davis before the draft, they can wash their hands of a drama-filled saga and acquire additional assets (more draft picks and/or young players) to complement Williamson.
What does this timeline mean for the Celtics, who according to NBA insider Chris Mannix still plan to aggressively pursue a trade for Davis despite growing concern that Kyrie Irving will bolt Boston in free agency?
Do the Nets know something we don't about Kyrie?
"I think that puts the Celtics at somewhat of a disadvantage, because they're going to have to make a deal before they have a lot of answers," Kyler said.
Since Irving likely won't declare his free agency intentions until after the NBA Draft (free agency begins June 30), the C's would have to go all-in on a Davis trade without a guarantee Irving will stay to play with him.
Then again, the expedited timeline could be a silver lining if you believe the reports that Irving is more likely to stay in Boston if he knows he can play with Davis, a good friend.
Here's another silver lining: The C's have assets the Pelicans covet in a Davis trade. According to Fletcher Mackel of NBC affiliate WDSU in New Orleans, young forward Jayson Tatum tops New Orleans' wish list.
Whether the Celtics would give up Tatum and other assets without even knowing if Irving will stick around to play with Davis is a different story. But it appears the dominoes are going to start falling soon -- possibly in under two weeks' time.
so Tatum, Smart and say Rob Williams with #14 this year and maybe a future first for Davis?
too much, or just right for a reboot without Irving?
how would you build the rest of the team, bring back Morris and Rozier or go with a team of vet minimum deals?

Assuming Irving isn't back and no guarantee of Davis for the long term, I wouldn't trade Tatum & Smart for Davis.
If they did make that deal, keep Rozier, re-sign Morris. We should have mid-level, #20, #22, #51 (likely for 2 way contract or draft & stash), and the low-level exception to fill out the last 5 spots on the team. Definitely would need some wing & guard depth. Probably target someone who can provide immediately impact as a 3 & D at 20 and 22, Cam Johnson or Matisse Thybulle. Tyler Herro would also be a strong consideration to provide outside shooting.
PG: Terry Rozier
SG: Jaylen Brown
SF: Gordon Hayward/Semi Ojeleye
PF: Al Horford/Marcus Morris/Guershon Yabusele
C: Anthony Davis/Aron Baynes/Daniel Theis

One weak spot on that roster? PG. Need to shore that up. Four spots open to do so. Hate losing Smart.

I would agree on the "only IF Davis signs an extention".
looks like a fair proposal.
Maybe add I. Thomas ( if he is healthy ) with that MLE and don;t forget Wannamaker (or maybe Larkin) as a cheap back up PG too.
Matisse Thybulle and Cam Johnson would be fine picks at 20 and 22, IMO in this case also.
roster would be
Starters:
Anothony Davis
A. Horford
G. Hayward
J. Brown
T. Rozier ( or I. Thomas)
Rotational players form the bench:
Thomas ( or Rozier)
Morris
Baynes
Semi
Theis
Deep bench/Young players:
Yabusele
Wannamaker or Larkin
Thybulle
Cam Johnson
one roster spot still open for this thought experiment.
I'm not sure that Davis would agree to an extension with this team, until he sees how competitive it could be though in that case it would quite the gamble for Danny to take.

Absolutely NO WAY should this proposed trade be made by the Celtics unless (as KDP mentions) Davis signs a Celtics contract before the trade!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can a trade that loses Tatum, Smart, Williams, two first round draft picks AND probably Davis, too for potentially only one year of having Davis be worthwhile????

Re: would you make this trade for A. Davis, even if Irving is leaving?
The conversation here assumes Irving is leaving so it really centers on being able to retain AD beyond one year.
However let us not lose sight of what Danny's primary goal is.
He wants to pair KI with AD which would give Boston a great big man little man combo.
I am not sure that Danny should do this deal unless Kyrie shows a positive interest in returning to the Celtics. I think that if Kyrie returns it enhances the chance that AD will resign next summer. AD cannot be expected to say yes I will resign with you, given he stills has one year plus a player option in year 2.
Without Kyrie but with AD Boston addresses their biggest flaw, acquiring an elite big man that can dominate at both ends of the floor. It would be hard to pass up even given the risk factors involved.
However by addressing that need you also open up another potential issue named Gordon Hayward. Is he ready to step in at the starting SF spot?
With no Kyrie and no Marcus Smart you would have to rely on Rozier to step into the role he has been lobbying for. There is a warm fuzzy sentiment to bring back IT but he only played in 12 games this season and none during the playoffs. I really do not know how much he has left. He will never be a starter again. He still cannot defend his position and the hip injury has reduced his speed, agility and quickness. Bottom line, Boston will need to add a PG.
The question can best be answered by asking yourself this one question. Can the Celtics beat the Bucks and Raptors next year with a starting lineup of AD, AH, GH, JB and TR. Also, can they put together a competitive bench that is as good as the benches that both the Bucks and Raptors have?
I remain undecided but ask me on July 1st.

Dboss, we can win it all with a starting lineup of AD, AH, JB, GH, AND KI.
Re: would you make this trade for A. Davis, even if Irving is leaving?
I trust no one when it comes to this deal. Say Kyrie leaves, we gut our youth for AD and pray that he wants to stick around. What if the two of them make plans for next year and AD moves on to Brooklyn/NY, wherever Kyrie decides to set up shop. I do not want to hear that it can't be done. Somehow, someway, I feel when push comes to shove, something exactly like this could happen.
We got burned with Kyrie, he led us all down the path thinking next year was already settled for him. Ha....fat chance.
I am sick thinking that we drafted some quality athletes, terrific ball players who have yet to come anywhere near their prime, and BANG.....they are gone. This is not the KG trade, we are losing some real quality here that could be built on.
I guess I have just about admitted that I want no part of an AD trade. My friend BobH would make me eat those words, and dboss will be right behind him!!!!! Just can't stomach the thought of this trade.

Terry, jayson, Rob, and a #14 pick for AD on an extended contract? That I would do.
Re: would you make this trade for A. Davis, even if Irving is leaving?
i would even throw in Yabusele

A verbal agreement isn't worth the paper it is written on.
