The #Celtics waiving Yabusele this early is likely a nod to giving him time to find a landing spot elsewhere (in NBA or abroad). They could have kept up to 20 players on the roster through preseason, but it was clear that he wasn't worthy of a 15-man roster spot.

Boston Celtics rumors: Guerschon Yabusele being waived (report)
By John Karalis | JKaralis@masslive.com
LAS VEGAS -- Guerschon Yabusele’s time in Boston is over.
According to Yahoo’s Chris Haynes, the team is waiving Yabusele, the 16th pick in the 2016 NBA draft.
Boston Celtics forward Guerschon Yabusele - the team’s No. 16 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft - will be waived, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
— Chris Haynes (@ChrisBHaynes) July 10, 2019
This is not a surprise. Yabusele was going into his third year in the league but was playing terribly in the Las Vegas summer league. He has only made one field goal in two games and looks lost in a setting where two years of NBA experience should be a tremendous advantage.
Yabusele’s thick frame and gregarious nature has earned him some cult status on social media, but that’s been the only positive impact he’s had in Boston. He’s averaged just 2.3 points on 44.2 percent shooting over 74 games played, and could only manage 32 percent on 3-pointers.
Yabusele was drafted 16th overall, which seemed like a reach at the time but the Celtics had limited rosters spots and Danny Ainge was unable to package picks into a deal. The Yabusele selection was a “draft and stash," where teams draft an international player and keep him overseas for some time so they have the rights to a guy they like while he plays and develops with another professional team.
Yabusele spent the 2016-17 season in China, and while the Celtics would have preferred he spend at least one more season overseas, he decided to come to Boston. Though he was nimble enough to be called “the dancing bear," his raw skills never materialized into NBA-level talent.
By the end in Las Vegas, the only question left with Yabusele was whether he’d remain with the team just so the Celtics could use this $3.1 million salary in a potential trade, or whether he would be cut. While the former plan had merit, the Celtics will be out of roster spots after rookie Carsen Edwards’ deal is finalized. This means Boston would need to open a spot if they feel the need to sign someone else.

OOOOOOH NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
He may be the ONLY guy who has ever gotten dumped off his team in the middle of the summer league schedule.
Probably lucky that he lasted as long as he did on the Cs roster, but he has certainly earned being placed on waivers. I doubt any team picks him so I am guessing that the Cs will have to eat his contract next season?

Seems like the right move, the others vying for the end of the roster and two way spots appear to have much more promise than Yabu.
Hope he catches on with another team, just glad it won’t be the Celtics.

Cs don’t need to make a decision till the regular season. Even then, could decide to leave the 15th spot open for a buyout target.bobc33 wrote:Seems like the right move, the others vying for the end of the roster and two way spots appear to have much more promise than Yabu.

I wish him well, seems like a good young guy. Just not an NBA player. Every organization has good and bad moves. This one was on the bad side of the book. Onward.

Re: The Dancing Bear Era is Over
Yabusele was a terrific locker room presence, but....that doesn't keep a job forever. Everyone loved him, but his play on the court just never got better, to a level where they could count on him. If he is not picked up by anyone, he will end up in Europe or China, too bad.
I don't know if this necessarily opens up the spot for Fal, The Celtics may hold this position open for a buyout or waivered player. You know Danny, he loves having that one spot that he can play with. It would allow him to sign Fal to a two way deal, which is what this guy needs. Work, Work, Work and good coaching.
Time will tell.

I'd say "Thank heaven for 7/11," but it is only 7/10.

Looking through some free agent stretch PF options for #Celtics final roster spot and I couldn't help but notice Jonas Jerebko was still available.

Per source, the Cs in the coming weeks could fill the 15th roster spot created by Guerschon's departure, but there's still a good chance that there will be more change before opening night.

And since plenty are asking, as of now there are no plans for Tacko Fall to claim the Celtics' 15th roster spot. Plan is still for him to enter camp on his Exhibit 10 deal and proceed from there.

Per source, the Celtics might even ultimately add 2 more players and enter training camp with 16 guaranteed contracts, as they've done in the past. It's pretty clear that with so many young guys and unknown quantities, they want to get a look at as many players as possible.

So sportrac is fake news about Tacko? I do expect to see Edwards on the roster.

Re: The Dancing Bear Era is Over
Exhibit 10 contract might be represented by the 1 year, non guaranteed deal. He would have to be waived before signed to Maine to get the bonus. Or he could be converted to 2way contract or regular nba contract.worcester wrote:So sportrac is fake news about Tacko? I do expect to see Edwards on the roster.

Re: The Dancing Bear Era is Over
Tacko signed an Exhibit 10 contract before summer league. It is non-guaranteed. I think that's what this is.
He could be cut and, if it's before the season starts, get $50K as payment, and that's all.
