Boston Celtics: Enes Kanter continues busy offseason with WWE championship victory
by Andrew Hughes2 days ago
Last season, all of the fighting surrounding the Boston Celtics locker-room appeared to be passive-aggressive in-fighting. This year, one of the newest members of the team is taking the fight to the biggest stage.
It is a blessing to have NBA players that are willing to garner free publicity for your team. In the past two years, the Boston Celtics’ most vocal player was a round-earth denying oddball who chose to take to the media to take shots at teammates and praise a former superstar teammate he demanded a trade away from.
Luckily Kyrie Irving and his conflicted personality are the borough of Brooklyn’s to deal with now. Boston’s newest menace is the jive-talking Turk, and now former WWE 24/7 champion Enes Kanter.
During WWE Main Event, a show the company doesn’t even advertise anymore, Kanter pinned R-Truth following what we’ll call an STO to win the brand-new title that debuted earlier this year. The championship’s gimmick is that it can be won at any time, much like the formerly-WWF’s hardcore Championship of the late 90’s and early 2000’s (or for the Houdini’s wrestling lads and ladies, the Attitude Era).
Well there Kanter was, shoving the man formerly known as Ron Killings down to the mat with a modified STO in a cheap-shotted attack. Kanter continued playing the “heel” (in non-wrestling terms, the antagonist) when he revealed to the Madison Square Garden crowd that he was rocking his #11 Boston Celtics jersey.
R-Truth was able to roll up Kanter during a momentary lapse on the Boston Celtics center’s part to regain his title. Luckily that means Kanter could dedicate his full-time to basketball and not have to constantly look over his shoulder for Drake Maverick. In a nice footnote (that is likely to change very soon given the nature of the belt), Kanter is the youngest 24/7 champion in the history of the promotion.
This foray into the squared circle wasn’t the first for Kanter and will almost certainly not be the last. He has revealed plans to pursue a career in WWE (or perhaps AEW given that he has history with the promotion too) with the moniker “Enes the Menace”.

MY NOTE: I have NO idea how he did this without violating his contract. Sports contracts, especially NBA contracts, are very specific about what extracurricular sports you are allowed to participate in. Skiing, for example, is generally forbidden because of the danger to the knees.
