Dwight Howard was called out for not wearing a mask. Further evidence that he is not the brightest light bulb in the socket. 2 other guys were sent to timeout for breaking the bubble protocol.
The NBA has set up a hotline to report anyone who is not abiding by the rules. Some players are referring to it as the Snitch Line.
I would bet that most of the players who tested positive were not following health guidelines on social distancing, frequent hand washing and wearing a face covering when distancing is not viable.
I sure hope ours will not be one of the class dummies.

BTW, are we (NBA) going to expect that the players where masks while playing? They will clearly be in violation of social distancing rules.

This bubble experiment is complicated. As long as players inside the bubble stay negative, social distancing should not be an issue. If they start at ground zero with no infections they should get through this. I think the biggest exposure will come from people that are working inside the bubble and going home at night. The less contact that players have with them the better. Passive transfer on surfaces is the invisible enemy.

Are there any players that are known to have been severely effected by the virus?

Not that I am aware of. I would add that we also do not know if they transmitted the virus to other people and if so how serious were they infected.

With the odds of getting the Virus with serious consequences being high for seniors and relatively low for all others - why not let the individual decide on the degree of risk that they choose to take.

Think of the mandatory seat belt laws. When something is scientifically proven to be in the best interest of the country most people will adhere. I do not know anyone who drives around without a seatbelt on. And all of my passengers must click it if they want to role with me.
The covid risk associated with young people cannot be looked at in a vacuum. It is not their risk it is everybody's risk. They can and will continue to spread the virus to other people including other family members who may have higher risk factors.
The other thing that should be consider is mutations. The longer this virus is spreading the more chance it has to continue mutations. For all we know by next year the virus could start killing young people. New studies are now warning that herd immunity may not be realized. As scientists develop more data we will continue to learn more.

Re: Players Policing Each Other
Swish, there is very little risk to most people under 30 from the virus, but there are many others in supportive staff to NBA players who are over 40, and they especially need to be protected.
I like the appealing idea of no lock downs, everyone intermingling, spreading the virus quickly to build up herd immunity, and the virus then petering out on its own - BUT when I read that herd immunity for measles does not start until 93% of a population is infected I have to discount herd immunity for covid-19 as an acceptable strategy.
What clearly would work is if for one month an entire population wore masks when in contact with each other and if the population all washed hands frequently, THEN the virus would virtually disappear. What is so hard about that?
Since most Americans will not follow that simple protocol, I suggest looking into alternatyive healthmeasures as fall back positions if one gets infected. Remdesivir IMHO is a scam. Very expensive and only reduces average hospital stays from 19 days to 12 days, whereas HCQ reduces stays from 19 days to 5. BTW, HCQ is most effective in the early stages of infection, not so much thereafter. HCQ has shown good results as a preventative as has Ivermectin.

Do you happen to known the death rate for various age groups ? I know it's very high for seniors and low for the young - but how about the middle aged.

Re: Players Policing Each Other
Altogether I think it is around one quarter of one percent, almost zero for those under 2, 5% or so for those over 80, somewhere in between for the rest.
Re: Players Policing Each Other
worcester, can you fill us in a little on some of the things I have been reading lately, such as the antibodies not necessarily lasting and the serious consequences , short of death , that the virus might have with respect to over all health , now and in the future?worcester wrote:Altogether I think it is around one quarter of one percent, almost zero for those under 2, 5% or so for those over 80, somewhere in between for the rest.

Re: Players Policing Each Other
I read that the immunity from antibodies of those infected may only last 90 days, that there can be severe longterm injuries to the lungs, and conversely that deaths by covid are much less in TX (3000+) than would normally die yearly of flu (12000+) and that TX flu deaths are way, way down. Honestly, I sm very confused by this pandemic, which is why I am trying to stay on the side of caution with my N95 mask, hand sanitizing, and social distancing.

Thankss worcester. I'm with you. I had childhood asthma and a respiratory disease is the last thing I would wish on anybody.

jrleft foot, The best remedy I know of for asthma is Ginseng and Gecko formula from Kan Herbs. I have use it with patients for years.
Covid-19 is not Lung Friendly.

Makes me wonder if some players who have had it will have long term detrimental effects? Even if only slightly any decrease in lung capacity is not good for a professional athlete.

Airborne allergies? Start taking small doses of locally harvested bee pollen, say 1/8 of a teaspoon, then gradually work up to a full teaspoon. Take it in the a.m. You'll mitigate allergies and get a buzz.
