Re: The NBA Draft

The New York Knicks have decided to trade up to the 23rd overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. According to Adrian Wojnarowski in ESPN, New York is sending pick nos. 27 and 38 for the Utah Jazz’s 23rd overall pick.
The Knicks now have the eighth and 23rd picks in the 2020 draft, which is being held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. Those two later picks (27 and 38) were originally earned from the Los Angeles Clippers at the 2020 trade deadline and the Charlotte Hornets at the 2018 deadline.

Moving up four spots to No. 23 strengthens the Knicks ability to package that and No. 8 to target a pick/player above them on the board tonight.

ESPN Sources: The New York Knicks are moving up in Wednesday’s NBA Draft, acquiring the Utah Jazz’s pick at No. 23 for the 27th and 38th picks tonight. Knicks are now picking at Nos. 8 and No. 23. https://es.pn/2UFLMad

MY NOTE: If 27 + 38 = 23 then what is 26 + 30 worth? 38 is worth a 3 pick upgrade, apparently, is #30 worth a 4 pick upgrade? What about 26 + 14? Would that get us down to 10, or lower? Two first round picks should be worth at least 2-3 picks up, right?

Apparently it’s a broken toe.

Bob,
Draft pick math doesn't seem to be scientific, especially as you get closer to the top of the draft.

gyso,
True. That's why I suggested that a 14 + 26 will only move us up 2-3 spots while a 27 + 38 moved the Knicks up 4. Furthermore, every draft is different. This one is discounted because there doesn't seem to any generational talent near the top (think Anthony Davis, Embiid, Zion, Tatum (?)) but rather it's pretty deep with good talent. Not so much of a shelf-like drop off after the top 3-5. Therefore, moving from 14 to 10 might not be seen as that big a deal. Likewise for 10 to 7.
Okongwu is projected at 6, 7 and at 9. It has just been reported that he broke his toe and will miss camp and some of the season. If that drops his value just a few picks Danny could move up to 9-10 and get him. IF that's who he wants. I never have a clue what is running through that man's mind, not even when he tells us what's going through his mind.

Bob,
I used to know what was going through his mind, when he was playing.
Touch the ball, shoot the ball.
