John Thompson.

1964 3rd round pick by the Celtics, played 2 years backing up Bill Russell. 2X World Champion Celtic.

He is most famous, of course, as the head coach of the Georgetown basketball program.

7 Coach of the Year Awards.

He, along with Johnny Eagan and Lenny Wilkens, put Providence College on the basketball map - a team that became my college rooting team and season ticket holder. It was huge local news when he committed to Providence College and helped Providence surpass Holly Cross as # 1 in new England. Outstanding career at Georgetown with a national championship as their coach and a bevy of star players that had stella careers in the NbA.
