Good catch.  That was a poorly researched question and answer by the calendar people.

The Buffalo Braves were founded in 1970, changed into the San Diego Clippers in 1978 and moved to LA as the Clippers in 1984.  Don Nelson did not score 40 points against that franchise, as it turns out.

The San Diego Rockets were founded in 1967 and moved to Houston as the Rockets in 1971.  That is the franchise that Nelson scored his 40 points against.

The answer is "San Diego", but the calendar people got the team name wrong.

I’d forgotten about the SD/Hou Rockets. Interesting box score. Hondo playing 46 minutes, a triple double 36/14/10 and perfect from the FT line, Nelly with only 1 miss from the line. It seems that Nelly, Howell, and Kuberski had their hands full with The Big E (go figure, he’s only a top 50 all timer) as he also played 46 minutes, putting up a point a minute 14 boards and 75% from the line before  fouling out.
