#NEBHInjuryReport for Game 5 vs. Brooklyn: Jaylen Brown (left scapholunate ligament surgery) - OUT Kemba Walker (left knee medial bone bruise) - DOUBTFUL Robert Williams (left ankle sprain) - DOUBTFUL
Bob
MY NOTE: Ankle sprain? Ok, can't play with an ankle sprain (although McHale played with a broken foot), especially if it's a bad one, but a bone bruise? Can't play through a bruise?! Bone bruises are just more painful, they ache more, but they don't do any more harm to your body than a regular contusion. Kemba's not endangering next season, or the rest of his career or longterm health effects, if he played with a bone bruise. We've probably all had bone bruises in our lives. I know I have and, when I was playing sports, I just shrugged it off or I wrapped it up and kept playing. Well, I guess that's what we should have expected from a player who played a grand total of 11 playoff games, never making it out of the first round, until this year.

This is throwing in the towel. We surrender. Don't expect a whole lot tonight and you won't be disappointed. Nets -24.

That’s funny. Not funny ha ha. It’s probably a big fat lie too. I strongly believe that Kemba is done. Knee is most likely shot to hell and the bone bruise is another front office fable.bobheckler wrote:Marc D'Amico @celtics

Question: If he were to retire, would we have his salary space to add another “star”?

ktron,
I'm not the salary guru here, that's GYSO, but here's what I found:
There's nothing binding about a player announcing his retirement. The player can still sign a new contract and continue playing (if he's not under contract), or return to his team (if he is still under contract) and resume his career.
The only exception to this is when a player is still under contract, wants to quit, and his team doesn't want to let him out of his contract. Under these circumstances the player can file for retirement with the league. The player is placed on the league's Voluntarily Retired list, forgoes his remaining salary, and cannot return to the league for one year. The latter requirement prevents players from using retirement as an underhanded way to change teams, but can be overridden with unanimous approval from all 30 teams.
Any money paid to a player is included in team salary, even if the player is no longer playing or has retired.
I may be misunderstanding this but it reads to me like the Celtics would still have Kemba's contract on the books even if he's not playing which would mean 'No', they cannot use his salary to sign another player if he retires.

Re: Pre-Game NETS, Playoffs, Game 5
according to Perk, Kemba could barely walk after that last game he played in. This is definitely more than a bone bruise, hell, I saw Bill Russell play on one leg and win a championship. There is more to this, whether it is more surgery, or whatever. He is not a quitter. There is still alot of fight in Kemba, but if they tell him his knee is shot????? I really do understand why they are tell us nothing right now, now determination has been made.
And to those who feel that Jaylen could have waited until after the playoffs for surgery?? Why in the world would he risk his career over this. Remember McHale who played on a destroyed ankle? Ruined him.

Brad Stevens on Kemba Walker being out: "I sat down with Kemba in my room today for a while and told him how badly we feel for him and how much we want him to feel better. It didn't sound like it's as much the knee (issue) he's been maintaining all year. It's the bone bruise."
