Frankly, My Dear...Lawrence is Plugging up the Dam
Nice article on Lawrence Franks in today's Boston Globe. He is described as a "defensive-minded" coach, which clears up my question on who is handling the defensive coaching job. (I had wondered because I had also seen him described as the assistant coach who compiles the opponent scouting report for each game.)
Also referenced is the importance of filling Thibs' shoes with someone the holdover players could respect equally. If Glen Davis sings Franks' praises, they you know his popularity has permeated even the fringe.
I hadn't known that Doc invited Frank to a Celtics practice last season to see how the team handled practices. Doc simply does not miss a trick in anticipating future needs.

A Boston Herald note makes the Quis injury seem a lot less serious:
Marquis Daniels (rotator cuff) participated in just the non-contact portion of practice. “I think it’s more precautionary than anything,” Frank said. “We’ll see what he’s able to do (today).”
In that same article, Frank (taking advantage of his temporary coach status to speak with the media, which assistant coaches are not allowed to do) mentioned (without specifics) that the tests on Delonte West were "encouraging."

As good as thibs was i still suggest that new blood can be a good good thing. A fresh eye from a really sharp basketball man can poke at little things that a more settled eye might miss.
