Celtics’ Chemistry Growing More Marvel-ous with Each Win

The Boston Celtics have developed into a group of superheroes, as they’ve risen from the dust of a troublesome beginning only to become the most prevailing force in the NBA over the past two-plus months, winning 20 of their last 23 games.
This past week, they did what superheroes do: they came down from the sky and swept their way through four Western Conference foes without showing a trace of struggle.
They started off their four-game road trip on Wednesday night with a 110-88 thrashing of the Golden State Warriors, owners of the best home record in the NBA. They tore through Sacramento Friday night with a 126-97 slashing of the Kings. They hammered the Nuggets with a 124-104 win Sunday night in the Mile High City. And to cap it all off, they struck down the Oklahoma City Thunder with a 132-123 win Monday night while playing on the second night of a back-to-back.
With each win, Boston's camaraderie seemed to grow stronger whether it was on the court, on the sideline, or in the locker room. They were playing for one another, celebrating each other’s successes, and enjoying every moment of their developing brotherhood.
“I think that we have proven ourselves right in terms of just having confidence, in terms of being there for one another,” Grant Williams said Monday night, after tallying career highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds against the Thunder. “I feel like this team is growing closer and closer every single day.”
Williams seems to be one of Boston’s main chemists when it comes to bonding the team together. He’s always showing support, constantly making people laugh, and his smile brightens up every arena that he enters.
Being the self-professed nerd that he is, Williams even gave each of his teammates nicknames based on characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which he read off his phone during Monday’s postgame interview.
Of course, now we're obliged to share them all, so enjoy:
Marcus Smart – Incredible Hulk
Al Horford – Captain America
Jaylen Brown – Black Panther
Aaron Nesmith – Drax
Sam Hauser – Hawkeye
Luke Kornet – Groot
Nik Stauskas – Ant-Man
Rob Williams – Thor
Daniel Theis – Captain Marvel
Jayson Tatum – Vision
Payton Pritchard – Quicksilver
Matt Ryan – Star-Lord
Malik Fitts – Doctor Strange
Brodric Thomas – Rocket
Derrick White – Iron Man
Grant Williams (himself) – Spiderman
Ime Udoka – Nick Fury
Sticking to the superhero theme, Williams had also requested his teammates to call him “Batman” after helping to slow down Denver’s Nikola “Joker” Jokic Sunday night, as the C's held the reigning MVP to an 8-of-23 shooting effort.
“My dad came up with that over a year ago,” Williams said of his DC superhero nickname, which has gone viral on social media over the past couple of days. “We played Denver, he was joking about it saying, 'We should just call you Batman from now on.' It wasn't just because of the whole Joker thing. It was more so I'm not like the most athletic, I'm not the most incredible, but brains and then like everything else you work with, that was the Batman kind of spiel.”

Sorry, but I am a grumpy old man. I find the entire thing silly and adolescent and goofy.
I can barely recall the names of all the roster fillers so I have little patience for the names of comic strip characters.

dboss,
As long as they are winning and having fun, they can call themselves whatever they want!! Just keep winning...Just keep winning!! Call each other Dory for all I care!!
It looks like sports media has changed its take on the Celtics effective this morning. Now they are saying we are too good for now and this will fizzle out in a 7-game series. Looks won't be this open, having to handle real scorers, etc., etc., blah, blah, blah. In conclusion, Boston still ain't winning it all so back to the kiddie table. They are still contemplating the what ifs of BKN, LAL, and PHI although PHI-championship talk has calmed down significantly lately and they may be the first team knocked off the elusive 3-team media perch as a total disappointment. They must be convinced Harden is Harden and nothing has changed nor ever will change with him when the real lights go up. Harden will look good in a SAC uni!! Insert/Download last 13 years Harden curse, same result. No title. PHI done. PHI can be replaced with a whiny Steve Kerr, though!!

Grant has a child like innocence about him.
But being a grumpy old man, I'm like go play outside.

I with ya Dboss. I’d much rather see “champion” next to each and every name.

I don’t have time for keeping up with all the Marvel universe either. I have an idea why Jaylen was called the Black Panther, even though not sure what super powers he has? Curious never heard of Vision, can anyone tell me about that character? Just wondering why Tatum was called that?

Vision was a robot/android built by Tony Stark (Iron Man). He was powered by one of the infinity stones, located on his forehead. He died after Thanos took the infinity stone from him. It was the last stone Thanos needed for his gauntlet. Thanos snapped his fingers and 1/2 of all sentient beings disappeared from the universe.
Vision died in Wanda's arms, but he appeared in the next show, Wanda Vision. He wasn't really Vision, but was actually a manifestation created by Wanda (the Scarlet Witch), made due to her love for him and her subsequent grief.
Vision could fly and was wicked smart. He was magenta.

I had started an earlier thread about this but this thread gathered all the comments, so I'll copy and paste it here.

In this article:
Grant Williams compares C's teammates to Marvel characters originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
Grant Williams isn't the only superhero on the Boston Celtics roster.
After nicknaming himself "Batman," Williams took it upon himself to assign Marvel Comics characters to each of his Celtics teammates. Of course, Batman is a DC character, so Williams had to switch up his nickname for the sake of this exercise.
Here's what he came up with:
Marcus Smart - The Incredible Hulk
Al Horford - Captain America
Jaylen Brown - Black Panther
Aaron Nesmith - Drax
Sam Hauser - Hawkeye
Luke Kornet - Groot
Nik Stauskas - Ant-Man
Rob Williams - Thor
Daniel Theis - Captain Marvel
"One of the most hated movies, but we appreciate him," Williams said.
Jayson Tatum - Vision
"Most powerful, most important in most movies."
Payton Pritchard - Quicksilver
Matt Ryan - Star-Lord
Malik Fitts - Dr. Strange
Brodric Thomas - Rocket
Derrick White - Iron Man
"I just found out I was Iron Man and I'll take it," White said. "I'm not gonna complain with Iron Man, even though he died."
Grant Williams - Spider-Man
Ime Udoka - Nick Fury
Williams originally came up with the Batman nickname after an impressive performance vs. "the Joker" Nikola Jokic on Sunday. Tatum and Brown originally scoffed at Williams referring to himself as The Dark Knight, but they may have to embrace it if he keeps this up. The 23-year-old notched career-highs in points (20) and rebounds (10) in Monday night's win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Avengers return home to TD Garden on Wednesday night to host the Utah Jazz. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston.
My comments: Grant Williams is not Spider-Man, maybe he is Deadpool, because he is always running his mouth (so I hear). Captain Marvel is not a guy, so Theis needs another assignment.

Re: Celtics’ Chemistry Growing More Marvel-ous with Each Win
So I got some of it wrong.
Ultron was created by Tony Stark and The Vision was created by Ultron.
Ultron turned out to be evil and The Vision fought against his programming and turned out to be good. Of course, this all happened because Tony did this in secret and convinced Bruce Bannon (the Hulk) to help. The other Avengers and Pepper Potts were not impressed.
"The Vision" is the real version, "Vision" is the fake manifestation made by Wanda.
Here's an article about The Vision's powers:

I think this whole thing is a hoot. Grant did a good job assigning most of his teammates to a Marvel character.
Coach as Nick Fury was a good choice, but nothing for Brad?

If that was what Theis looked like...
OK, I'm not going there.
I haven't caught all of the reams of Marvel movies, but I have to go with Iron Man as my fave.
Dude can fly, has super-human strength and wildly powerful armaments when wearing his suit, lives a lavish lifestyle with more than enough bank to get any toy he desires, gets into it with any number of beautiful women, and still has Pepper Potts completely into him. Now that is a super-hero.
