Player Grades Reg/post season
Player Grades regular/post Season
Jayson Tatum A/A-
Jaylen Brown A-/A
Al Horford A/A+
Marcus Smart A/A-
Robert Williams A/A-
Derrick White C/C-
Grant Williams B/B+
Peyton Pritchard B/B-
Daniel Theis C+/C
Aaron Nesmith C/C-
These grades are based on regular season performances as well as what was expected YOY. The playoffs was like playing 1/4 more of a season and was more difficult because of the competition.
Tatum was our top dog during the regular season but he came apart at the seams at times during the playoffs and particularly in the championship series.
Jaylen was often inflicted with the same decision making and execution issues as Jayson but on the biggest stage in the title series he led us in scoring.
Al Horford was tremendous for us during the year and really stepped up in the playoffs.
Marcus won the DPOY for the regular season but I thought his defense was not as good during the playoffs. His bad ankle sprain was also a factor.
Robert Williams had great regular season and a very solid playoffs but due to the on again off again knee issues he was not able to give us as much as he did in the regular season.
Derrick White underperformed during the regular season and was even worse during the playoffs.
Theis was a -3.9 net during the regular season and -8.4 during the playoffs. What more do you need to know.
Peyton Pritchard really did not get a lot of playing time this year. He played even less during the playoffs because he struggled shooting the 3 ball. Even so he still had a very good net rating during the playoffs at 9.3 Small sample size (12 MPG) not withstanding.
Aaron Nesmith still cannot knock down shots. That is the reason he does not get to play and the reason why he did not help us much this year at all.

You must be grading on a curve. I hate report cards so I will not comment any further. :<)

deboss, Your grades are close to mine - on a curve, of course. I might rate White a littler higher but the mid-season trades of Schroder, then Richardson, Langford and a first-round pick for White were horrible. Coupled with dishing off Moses, the only potential TimeLord backup to wear green last season, however, briefly, management snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. IMHO, of course. Cheers, hawk

Hi Hawk, how are you?
On February 10th when Brad traded for White our record was 31-25. That wasn't bad considering our record was 18-21 on January 6th, a 13-4 (.764) run but as you know we really stank it up through early January and that was with Schroder, Josh and Romeo.
We ended up 51-31, which means that from Derrick White's first game vs Denver on 2/11 we went 20-6 (.769). I don't see any drop off in momentum. We also had a pretty damn good post-season run.
Schroder was gone at the end of the season, almost certainly. Richardson had another year on his contract, and I like Josh, but he was a 3-and-D player. White can run point and we needed ball handling behind Smart. Is he as good a 3pt shooter as Josh? No, but he does other things that Josh couldn't do, like dribble and drive. White still has 3 more years on his contract.

Definitely on a curve.
The overwhelming factors, a very impressive come from behind regular season and an EC win plus 2 quality wins in the championship
Should be no bad grades for anyone.
Everybody wants to take my class. I give out points for showing up and playing with effort.

White is offensively challanged and Marcus at times forgets his job.
Even with those realities, add an off the bench shooter or 2, protect the ball and we are going ti win.

Re: Player Grades Reg/post season
Bob, I’m well, heading to Cuba tonight on a two-month writing project so a little apprehensive, but psyched. As you pointed out, the C’s were 13-4 and cooking in the month before the trade, a little better after it, but with a much weaker bench. Smart was given the car keys and drove well until the ankle slowed him down. It was then, versus the warriors, that I had to ask myself if I’d rather have White, or Schröder, Richardson and Langford. IMHO, RW is key, and my bigger worry was having no backup when the young, cheap 7’1’’ MB was let go. Oh well, it was a great ride, cheers, hawk

Re: Player Grades Reg/post season
Hawk, I spent 2.5 weeks in Cuba in 2000 as as an editor of Alternative Medicine magazine and as a seminar leader. What an enormously fun though somewhat disconcerting time. Fun was staying at the Grand Nacional hotel with its fabulous pool, great music, food, and people - plus meeting a gal on the beach who taught me more than Spanish. Disconcerting was leading a 3-day seminar with Dr. Friedrich Douwes, President of the German Society of oncologists, for all the oncologists of Cuba on advanced treatments for cancer only to be told by one doctor at the end - "These methods and equipment are all remarkable, but we have a hard time even affording bandages."
Also bothersome was meeting the beautiful daughter of one of the leading doctors of the country and finding out she was a prostitute. I asked her, "How can you be a prostitute when your father is one of the top doctors in Cuba?"
She answered, "He makes $25 a month. I make $100 a night."

Ah, Worcester, Yes, the situation for Cubans and visiting Americans has only worsened in the last two decades. My Spanish teacher and advisor is a chemist with an advanced degree and published research, but she makes far more on line with gringo students than she can in her profession. To visit now is a real pain for Americans, with complicated rules and a presumption of guilt if you’re suspected of violating them. But the salsa, the sunsets, the eternal optimism of a proud people is fuel for a hot script and I want to do it justice. Always had a hankering and at my advanced age, I figure it’s now or never. hawk

No my Mom was a teacher. I better not hate report cards back then.
I’m referring more to players report cards. It’d be okay if it worked both ways. :-)
