Re: 2022-2023 POST GAME MILWAUKEE BUCKS - AWAY

Thanks for the thoughtful, (and long!), response.
My message is strictly my opinion and reflects not only my thoughts on the coach at this time, but the fact that some board members can't seem to make their point and then leave it alone.
I may disagree with someone and say so, but then I try to leave it alone. No one here knows all the facts behind the scenes. Not me, not anyone. No one here is truly qualified to second guess, but we all do. Me and literally everyone else. it's what we do as fans. But after a while it gets tiring and pointless when we get into non-stop circular patterns.
When we started the forum, it was our hope that we wouldn't go down that road too often. We didn't like the posturing we saw elsewhere where people were sure their opinion was fact. It's all opinion here after all.
I'm merely exercising my right as a board member to express my opinion, and my role and responsibility as a founder and admin to remind folks that we don't need to keep reasserting our thoughts, as fact or opinion, over and over. Say it once, respond if you really feel the need, then move on. One of the board rules we should have written; don't beat a dead horse. Another; opinions expressed here are fine, but usually not facts. Maybe we'll add those.
I'm not targeting this message specifically at you Ktron, it's a general thought.
Now let's see who will be the first that can't resist picking at or arguing against what I just said.
Regards
Point well taken….

Joe Mazzulla on why Robert Williams only played 13 minutes: “No reason.” Was it matchup related? “No.” He never comes off the bench: “That’s not true.” Not since he got off the minutes restriction: “Yes.” So what was the purpose of the change? “Just felt like making it.”

MY NOTE: Not happy with this. You can go with stats/metrics like Brad used to do, you can go with your gut, but whichever you go with has to be right or you have to explain where it wasn't. This response doesn't tell me he learned anything from this. He hasn't been a coach long enough to be able to say "I've already seen it all". He's not Pop, his gut hasn't been developed and refined over 27 seasons. Joe was only 7 years old when Pop became a coach. Coach Whimsy. Maybe I'll start calling him that.
The Celtics played well and almost pulled off an improbable win but this ain't no game of horseshoes.
SIASJ, for no reason that he could come up with, decided that Rob would play the part of a deep bench guy and in so doing only played him 13 minutes in a 53 minute contest (including overtime) Since when do you reduce a core guy's minutes especially when you have 4 starters missing?
It was inexplicable. I guess he choose to ignore Rob's rebounding dominance over the past 3 games (16, 16 and 15) Just maybe the Bucks 52-44 rebounding advantage, in what turned out to be a nip and tuck game, could have made a difference. Every fan, that understand how good the Bucks are, knows that if you cannot match their rebounding numbers they are more difficult to beat
Bob I am with you 100% on this.
I really liked the way the Celtics competed but you could see that guys who do not play big minutes become less effective the longer they play.
Grant Williams gets awarded the dunce cap for fumbling away our last best scoring opportunity but D White did say that he put Grant in a bad position. Nevertheless, that was turnover #5 so he had 4 previous turnovers before that one including a similar case of the clumsy's.
I felt that PP coming in late in the game blew up in Joe's face as Khris Middleton immediately took advantage of the matchup and score B2B buckets including an and 1.
Can this guy take the team through what will be a grueling playoff run? That question remains unanswered. I hope the answer is affirmative but last night SIASJ picked up a middle name, DAJ (Dumb Ass Joe)
Dboss,
The record for most consecutive 15 rebound games by a Celtic is held by Dave Cowens, with 4. Robert Williams was tied with others, including Larry Bird, at 3. I know that individual stats mean nothing and shouldn't mean anything, but by playing RWill only 13 minutes he deprived him of a chance for Celtic immortality. If he got 15 rebounds vs Milwaukee he would have tied Big Red for #1 and, in his next game played, taken sole ownership.
If Joe's going to leave Tatum in so he can get 50, because 48 isn't a nice round number like 50, then he should have been more cognizant of RWill's opportunity. It's a little thing and won't impede our march towards #18, but if he's going to be a player's coach then he should be a player's coach.
Bob
.
Bob I did not know about the rebounding record.
The Celtics really played well despite missing 4 starters and having their 5th starter ride the bench for around 40 minutes. The Bucks are an excellent team. For the Celtics to force the game into an overtime period given all the missing pieces is clearly a moral victory. That's great but is still falls short of winning a winnable game. The best thing that comes out of this game probably centers on the Celtics knowing that they can beat the Bucks and the Bucks have to be concerned that they are not as good as the Celtics, top to bottom.
I believe that we could have won the game. My criticism directed at coach Joe should not be taken out of context (NYCelt my friend)
As a fan you see patterns. Calling timeouts has already cost the Celtics a few winnable games this year. That in my opinion could be an issue when the competition over an extended playoff series challenges your team's ability to win close games. I am not making this up. I referenced our record in OT games and games decided by 3 or fewer points and also pointed out how the Bucks have performed in those circumstances.
Rebounding is one of the pillars that support a winning formula. That is why I questioned CJ's decision not to play RW more minutes. Given the fact that we were outrebounded by 8 is proof enough.
Joe's post game comments were perplexing. If Rob was not able to give us more minutes than the rebounding deficit would be understandable. The fact is that Rob is a significant contributor on the glass and especially the offensive glass where his tenacity gets the team more possessions and scoring opportunities. This is not rocket science and you do not have to be an expert to comprehend basketball related concepts.
We all support CJ and want him to succeed but he certainly does not get a free pass, at least not from me. My critiques do not alter my support for him.

Dboss I agree with you, as good as Joe has been, he should not be beyond reproach. I too would rather the TO be called sooner, rather than later. Stop the run at 4-0, not 12-0. Also Joe inherited a deep and young team with many ascending pieces, ofcourse led by 2 J’s who are still improving and have to be the best 2 way wing tandem in the league. We also have the deepest backcourt in the league, in a league all about the perimeter; so yeah Joe is good, but a lot of coaches could do wonders with this roster and depth.
