Al to retire at end of season
Looks like we will lose one of the classiest players to put on a Celtic uniform at the end of this year. Celtics have confirmed Al is retiring

Re: Al to retire at end of season
This is very surprising considering that he signed an extension last year. Not seen this yet on other sites.

I am not seeing this anywhere. I hope that means it ain't true.
IMO, he isn't ready to retire.

Re: Al to retire at end of season
The story was on facebook, saying that the NBA was confirming that the Celtics had said he was retiring. I have tried all over the place and can find nothing now. BobC. I saw that you saw it, am I crazy. Found it a little hard to believe since he signed that extension in December 2022. Either something changed drastically or it is a false story. I have looked everywhere myself

Re: Al to retire at end of season
I just found this tweet:
https://twitter.com/CelticsMuse/status/1642288232799846409
My question: Why would he announce this now? It seems premature.

Another sign that it may not be true:
CelticsBlog would be all over this news. They are not.
There is a FanPost about it from two days ago with no comments.

Rosalie,
That is what the tweet that I linked (above) said. I'm still having a hard time believing this. The internets are too quiet about this "monumental" news.

Re: Al to retire at end of season
I totally agree. There is nothing on the news about this and I am sorry , this is big news to me. Even Felger has nothing about it and they would be eating this right up. Why do people do this……..sorry, I fell for it in the beginning, but the more i thought and searched the more I truly believe it is all garbage

Re: Al to retire at end of season
As we all breath a sigh of relief it does lend itself to the need to find a replacement for him at some point in the future.
His career has been extended greatly because he is one of a unique brand of centers that has been able to evolve in the NBA.
The Celtics have not played him in any B2B games this year. They have done a remarkable job. He should be able to play for a few more years as a stretch big.
His transition as a stretch 4/5 actually began in his last year with the Hawks. In his first 8 years with the Hawks he attempted a total of 65 3 pointers. In his 9th and final year he took 256 3 pointers. This season Al has taken a career high 325 three point attempts.
Now every team in the NBA is looking for a big who can stretch the floor.
To put this into perspective AH is 2nd in the NBA among centers in total 3 pointers attempted per game. Porzingis is #1 at 5.5 attempts per game and Al has 5.2 attempts per game.
AL is #1 in 3 point shooting percentage at 44.6% among all centers in the NBA.
That's impressive.
